Not sure what my above post said. But how long long have you had the above valve installed

Valvomax needs the screw-on tube bit to drain ... unless you can use something like a nail-set to push the ball-bearing in. Fumoto you choose the rate by adjusting the valve control and can still use the tube.

    As I understand.

I currently have 450 miles on mine, but will be doing my first oil change at 1K miles also. Already have all the supplies, but the fumoto valve looks interesting and I'll be looking into that.

Do that for the first change, I suggest. That way you only ruin one set of clothes. ;)

Valvomax all the way. I have them on two other vehicles and have one in the garage waiting for the Tacoma (M12-1.25). They are a bit pricey at $50 or so, but you'll realize it was a good purchase the first time you have to change your oil. Never again dealing with the oil plug..... Outer cap comes off, screw in the tube fitting and watch the oil come down the tube into a container of your choice. YES, it takes longer to drain, but absolutely NO mess. The nicest thing about them is never again having to worry about the OEM plug, torque, etc.... as long as you install it correctly. The quality of the machined parts is exceptional from my perspective. I've actually had the outer cap off with the engine running on my 2004 Tahoe and there are no leaks. It's a fitting that doesn't open until you insert the drain tube fitting and screw it in.

On a side note, that year Tahoe 4.8L is one seriously reliable engine. 260,000 miles on it now and sounds like it's new and burns no oil. Ah, the good old days of uncluttered and uncomplicated engineering..... I did have to rebuild the tranny about 5 years ago because the previous owner was an idiot and never flushed the engine coolant....the tranny cooler piping runs through the main radiator and the radiator fluid ate through those lines and shot coolant into the tranny. Rebuilt tranny, new radiator....done. I use it around town for Home Depot trips, etc....

But what if you need to drain the oil and you do not have the special screw-on tube? Thin nail-set to push the ball-bearing and keep off to the side?

I guess you could do that, but the trick is to not lose the drain hose with the fitting on it. You can buy those separately if you lose it. After I drain my oil, I put that fitting/hose into a zip lock bag and it stays in the vehicle it goes with.

That answers it. Still need the special tool. Steel for ValvoMax, brass for Fumoto. Low profile protected for ValvoMax, high profile exposed for Fumoto. Special tool for ValvoMax, simple lever only required for Fumoto. Both an improvement over removing the oil-drain plug.

No. It actually was a serious question. Who wants to spend more money when they don’t have to? Toyota says you don’t have to change the oil for break in period, just drive. So why change it early? It’s a legit question if you ask me.

I had the fumoto valve on my 2nd gen for 11 years and never had it problem. It was awesome that allowed me to do an oil change completely tool-free and clean.

I’ll be putting it on my 3rd gen when I do my first oil change in a few months, but sadly, I’ll need to use some tools because Toyota decided to go with the canister under the engine, under the skid.

Tacoma world law - if let go long enough, every thread eventually degenerates into an oil change interval fight. Most of us might not agree with whats being done here, but thar be other threads for drawing our line in the sand.

I'mma gonna let them have this one.

Not true lobster. When a thread reaches complete devolution it becomes a meme thread. Everyone knows this.
