Usually I do the first one at 1000 miles but some advise to wait until 5000.
When do you do your first?

Since you live in Cali and the truck's frame has a chance of surviving past 10 years, do the first oil and filter change after break-in, which is at 1000 miles.

More beneficial to do the rear diff at 500 miles, since there's no filter.

    1000. Well, 1k and a few change.

It's an old school train of thought. But I figure there's no risk and it's cheap to do it at 1k. I'll do one at 5k and then fall into the Toyota service cycle of 10k. You can just wait to 10k, not like these trucks are blowing up left and right because people waited to 10k for their first.

    Still thinking about it.
If you like changing your oil like I do, then do it early and often. If you don't really care then just do it whenever. Your results will probably be the same :)

I throw out my toilet paper rolls at about the halfway point. Manufacturer says use it all, but it doesn’t hurt to be safe.

Break-in for the rear diff is typically 500 miles. See: https://www.randysworldwide.com/resource-center/new-gear-break-in/

The owner's manual says to avoid towing the first 500 miles for the same reason.

Keep in mind the powertrain warranty is 5 years / 60,000 miles. After that, Toyota doesn't care and you're on your own.

10k miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. I had my first oil change at around 3k miles, but it was on the 12 month mark.

I did my first oil change myself at 6500 miles and you can blame old habits but I always did oil changes every 5000 miles so between Toyota care oil changes, I’ve been doing my own.

I did mine at 5k new, then every 5k afterwards. Blackstone results have been great these past four+ years.

I got this from Toyota the other day:
    Screen Shot 2020-03-08 at 9.36.27 PM.jpg

I'll stick to the Toyota recommended service intervals. So the first one will be done at 6 months (I'm only at ~1200 miles).
