Well, if the gentleman changes his oil at 5k intervals v 10k he will subject himself to an extra $1,000 over the period it takes to log 200,000 miles. Many people here replace their tires and wheels before they hit 1,000 miles at a cost of at least $1,000. And this guy is the crazy one?

I must have gotten all of them from everyone else. Truck has been bulletproof so far. I’ve used oil from 0/20 to 10/40 different brands synth dino you name it. Hasn’t skipped a beat.

You're telling me you changed the oil three times, but this is the first time you're changing the filter..? WTF??

The reason why is the filter was not damaged or dirty or compromised. It was doing its job perfectly fine. The reason I extracted the oil multiple times is to remove the microscopic metals in the oil that filters do not pickup. The purpose is to minimize microscopic scoring. You can see from that pics the filter is in great shape and no shavings in my canister.

Why is your can / filter so clean op?

    I can't wait until friday.

No I don't think the oil extraction purged the glitter from your filter. Other people have glitter I don't see why yours isn't the same.

So all this great work on the engine… what have you done to preserve the transmission and filter as well as the differential(s)?

the microscopic metals ARE in your filter too, but you can't see them because they are MICROSCOPIC. I can understand your desire to change the oil frequently, but to me it makes sense to put on a new filter at each change as well. Since you are trying to be thorough, go all the way and be thorough. You are already paying a lot for the oil why not just add a couple more bucks and put on a filter as well.

I first dumped at, hmm I don’t remember. The second dump at 10k I decided to leave filter since it’s a pain in the rear hole. Filter was clean at 3k or when ever that first dump took place. I still can’t believe how fast the oil drains. I had a 5x7 tarp down and it was juiced! What type of drain container are y’all using? I’d like to minimize splash out on my next dump. I’ll change filter too at 15-20k

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
This last go round, I jacked the front up a bit and used a 10qt bucket to minimize the splash. Worked much better than a drain pan which just acts to redirect the the oil stream towards you and the floor. The 0/20 is like opening flood gates.

Those stupid filter housing sockets take up so much room in my tool box.

At least the BMW has its filter housing on top of the engine. Way easier change.

When I drain, I use a regular drain pan but I lift the drain pan and hold it up close to the drain plug. Once the draining starts to fill an inch or so into the drain pan I slowly lower it to the ground and no splash occurs.

Not an oil change, it was an oil extraction

It would be funnier if she was doing that on a normal car. Being a BMW the humor is lost cause they leak that much oil by themselves
