I once had 6 seals go bad on mine at the same time. It lost a quart every 300 miles.

If it doesn't leak oil, how do you know it has any!?

    ? for diy'ers
if the oil filter housing gets broken? will all oil drain out? (engine not running) meaning is the oil pan lower than the oil filter housing?

    thx in advance

Seems like someone trolled himself by not spending 20$ on filter on every oil change.

No, the oil won't drain out of the pan. You need to have a spinning oil pump for that.

And your housing won't get broken if you put a common sense and some basic mechanical skills

No I mean a cartridge filter up top, not a screw on. Cartridge filter like on the 2GR.

I get what you are saying, but to counter your point the particles smaller than 20 - 30
microns or so is what is what I was really after. The filter was doing its job for anything larger. Generally filters are only rated with good efficiency to this level. I also noticed zero particles in the canister. Not that I would see these at a microscopic level, but the point of the multiple extractions was to remove this contaminated oil and particles that oil filters cannot remove. A new filter but the same oil would do nothing for this issue. The particles I did see were trapped on the inside of the filter. This is why I believe removing contaminated oil is much more important than the filter as nothing was malfunctioning with it nor was it dirty. It’s not like the filter was releasing the metal particles it did catch back into the system.

Today I went to dealer for 5K service and just found out they don't change oil at 5K, they do at 10K lol.. Good thing I mentioned " I am here for rotation & oil service " and was told oil service was at 10K .. When I told him what? he said " yeah, I know " xD so I did pay 70$ and they did it.

I can't really blame dealer when Toyota is itself has this non sense mapping intervals. Dude felt bad for saying it was at 10K interval as he knew the truth deep in his heart. Crazy how greedy Toyota got from past, its almost like completely different company.

RIP to all those people who follow 2 years of free " MAINTENANCE " xD

I tried to get my 15k service today; I told the service advisor I wanted to pay for an oil change if they’d match a competitor on price. He’s like you don’t need an oil change you’re wasting your money. I was like, well it’s my money not yours. Then he told me it would be 4 hours wait for an oil change (there were 8 cars in front of me?). I went there for my first 2 services, but I feel like I’m done with this dealer.
He wouldn’t even commit to matching the other dealers price ($23 less than they offer). $49 for synthetic plus an extra quart. Sucks because the next closest dealer is 1 hour away.

You guys are right, most dealers are dumb as box of rocks. Attached is from Toyota. 5k OCI’s is absolutely recommended for many conditions. Guess what, if you spend a lot of time in traffic or drive a lot of short trips, you qualify for 5k OCI’s NOT 10k. I don’t blame you guys for being pissed at the level of ignorance.

correct, lube the o ring and 18 lbs of torque, the plastic housing will easily last the life of the vehicle.

Luckily dude I met understood and didn't argue with me. It is exactly your money and your engine, you go there for service and if you decide to pay, they need to do it. Mine took roughly 2 hours for 5K service + oil change.

lol dude I saw this too, and was surprised how they had no idea of this. I live in NJ, there is always traffic here, takes me 1 hour to cover 15 miles from work to home everyday, there is no way I am going for 10K oil change. Only people fit for that are ones who live somewhere in far country with no snow, no dust or traffic with perfect road.

I don’t even bother with arguing with them. I’m not a mechanic but I’ve been working on my own vehicles for 30 years and have an engineering background. Most of the time I can’t stand other people working on my vehicles. 90% of them don’t give two shits and treat customers vehicles like trash. Of course the ones actually changing the oil / rotating the tires are the least experienced of them all. I’m seriously considering not going to the dealer at all, I’ll just save the receipts for filters / oil and take a pic of the mileage and keep it in a folder.

That's exactly what I do plus I just keep a spreadsheet with the date, mileage, and service performed. I believe from reading here on TW that you can also enter this on the toyota app.

Did one trip to the dealer for one of the two oil changes that were included with the vehicle purchase. Once was enough. I would only return to the dealer for a recall TSB or warranty issue.
