So this morning I got the truck in the proper AT temp range, took off the check plug and not a drop came out! WTF
How was the level proper yesterday and now after driving it’s apparently low. No leaks anywhere.

Could I do this... go through the steps of getting in the correct temp range, keep the truck running while I put more fluid in with the check plug out? Is there anything wrong with this procedure, if not shouldn’t that give me an accurate reading, stopping with a small trickle?

I think you had air in the system, the air displaced the area for the fluid. As the air works itself out the fluid ends up being low. That’s my thought.

This was my last step. I got the truck back in proper AT temp range. I took off the fill plug with the truck in park and running. I loosened the check plug and I had a steady flow for about 2 seconds and then I got a solid trickle. I didn’t add any fluid from my first check this morning. Obviously I’m getting 2 different readings with the fill plug on and off. Or am I’m missing something here?

I think @spitdog meant was that the air settled out overnight thus causing the low level this morning.

If it feels like it’s not coming out of gear when you’re stopped I’m gonna say the TCC valve rubber gasket is fused inside I’d remove the TCC solenoid lube with tranny fluid and put it back in

Should've added fluid this morning. The air is displacing the fluid. I'd be willing to bet you're still pretty low.

If I was you at this point, I would just drive it around a bit, fluctuating your speed up and down so the tranny is shifting a bunch. Go home and park it and don’t touch it until the morning, and that means don’t open up any fill or check plugs. Let the fluid cool down overnight. First thing next morning, put it in check mode, leave it running and only open the check plug to see if you have a trickle.

If none comes out, just add 3/4 qt. and repeat above process. It make take you a few days, but I think you will get it.

I think the one thing that is making this difficult is that you don’t have any idea on how much fluid has been removed or put back in. The transmission is sensitive too, and needs the correct amount.

I’m wanting to replace my fill plug. I can see it’s ready to strip on me. I’ve searched mad looking for it online and can only find the drain and pan plugs. Thanks!

Why trust the internet when you’ve got the power of TW behind you

Or any of these courtesy of @gearcruncher from a few years ago...
Might want to consider getting the check, fill and drain plugs, all w gaskets, while you’re at it...

I’m waiting on the fill plug to get in. Plus I needed a break from it. I’ll get back at it this weekend.

Update... I got the truck in check mode and checked the fluid and again not a single drop came out. I added a quart, got it back in check mode, opened up the check plug and drained to a trickle which was almost the entire freaking quart I put in!

Anyways, I took it for a 20 mile drive. The first 10 was almost flawless as far as smooth shifting went. But I still couldn’t get it to shift into OD. I had to go in N while at around 65 and then in D and OF would kick in.

On the way back home it went back into limp mode as I couldn’t get it to shift pass 3rd. I wanna drop the pan and check the solenoids but I’m not sure where to start checking. Any help???

Well that sucks...Sorry it wasn’t the fluid.

Any chance you can get ‘er to the Great White North and have @gearcruncher work on it????

Short of that, might consider throwing in the towel now.

If you do dig into yourself, make sure you account for all the small check balls, do dads and other shit that could drop out. Do your research.

Good luck! Thanks for the update!!
