    Hey All,

I’m a new Tacoma owner - 2 months in and today I was out exploring some real truck trails and pushing the truck a little bit past what the stock setup might like, and in a tight spot and nowhere else to go, a rock high centered against the side skirt, it left a dent and solid scratch along the side skirt just below the driver door. Rock sliders would’ve absolutely prevented it, but I wasn’t expecting to get so gnarly haha. I guess I’m just looking for similar stories to help me feel less shitty about it! How did your first scratch or dent come about?

Anybody have luck with touchup paint? How can you repair a fairly good damage on a difficult spot like the side skirt?

    Cheers!

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

It’s ruined now, might as well go trade it in.

At least it will make the next scratch less painful! Now that you got that out of the way, you can take it down all the trails you want without any guilt.

About the same length of time after buying my 16, I parked behind a low flatbed trailer, the kind you’d buy at tractor supply etc. Couldnt see it at all from the driver seat. Came out an hour or so later and walking up from the rear of my truck, forgetting entirely that the trailer was right in front of me, I pulled out, smacked the trailer with the passenger side of my bumper and send the trailer into a spin and ricocheting off the adjacent fence and into my pass rear door. Luckily my truck had factory steps on it which largely saved the door and bed from getting shredded. Left a crease / gouge 20” long and 3/4 -1” deep in the door and a ding in the bed. Thankfully at least the cab came out virtually unscathed.

I’d wanted to pull those steps off since I picked up the truck and later put on sliders, but thankfully I hadn’t had time to do it. Otherwise my door and possibly bed would have been destroyed.

Exactly. Now when I see that damage I don’t even flinch. Or feel like rolling that trailer down the nearby ravine. Or beating the shit out of something.

Third gen factory endcaps are absolutely useless

Thanks for all the stories and making me feel less crappy about my damage! It is what it is, it’s a truck and I was using it for what it was meant for! Here’s some pictures of the damage...

Also managed to break two of the oem mud guards, any suggestions for flexible aftermarket options?

If your going to offroad it just take the other 2 off. They are going to get snatched off anyway

My first dent came from a boatbush. I went to help a friend load his broke rig on a trailer at midnight. I missed the turn to camp so I went down the trail a little turned around and went a different way back to camp. Apparently someone parked a boat here about 10 years ago.

I got regeared and front and rear lockers out of it so I was happy

OP, it could be way worse. Check out my story of sadness and misfortune

When I first got out of the military I bought a brand new 04 Taco TRD OR. I was young and irresponsible. I had my truck for 3 months at this point. One day I had rented some movies at a West coast video. Well, me being lazy and forgetful, I had the movies for 3 weeks. Little did I know in the disclaimer that when you are late like that, you end up buying the movies. And when you buy movies from a place like that, you don't buy them for $15 or $20. You buy them for $70. And they deducted the $430 fee right out of my checking account for the 6 movies I had. I had my car insurance set up auto pay. I think you can see where this is going. Well, my insurance didn't go through because I didn't have enough money in my checking account.

Before I realized that I wasn't covered, 2 days later I was pulling out of a parking spot and didn't see a guy flying up the hill. I pull out and BAAAM!!! My truck was fucked. $8400 in damage, not to mention, I got sued by the guys insurance company because I wasn't insured. I drove a really fucked up taco for a few years until I saved the money. That was an important lesson in responsibility for me.

I dented my old 2010 a week after buying it. Freaked out about it at first, but ended up keeping it as a badge of honor - I suggest you do the same!

    Congrats on the new truck!
