So at 220k miles my truck has finally failed an annual inspection for rear brakes. I figured I would tackle this myself.
It took me 45 minutes and retapping the bolt hole oversize because I stripped it out, heat, a brass drift, 4 lb mallet and a lot of beating to get each drum off because they were siezed onto the hub from never being off for 15 Pennsylvania winters.
Overall, not too bad for never doing brake shoes before. Only one bloody knuckle and few curse words. I still had the ambition to weld a cracked exhaust down pipe bracket.
Just finished adjusting them. Here is to another 200k miles.

Congrats, drums are annoying, especially getting them all adjusted.

I grew up in Cleveland. I thought rust came on new cars. Crawling under the car, always a joy.
I would either adjust the rear brakes backing up and using ebrake or, in the summer, manually adjust the rear brakes. Rear brake parts will move and not rust away and truck will stop better. Front disc brakes do most of the stopping, the rear drums need a little attention or the shoes won't even hit the drum.
