So I bought my first taco a week ago. I came from a ‘15 Laramie Cummins. Big difference I know. Don’t know if it’s just coming from a big truck to a small one but I have a few concerns. First off I bought the truck only driving it on the highway, drives pretty decent but I figured it needed the tires rotated and balanced. There is this intense wah wah wah wah sound that appears around 35 mph, tires probably need replaced and plan on doing that this coming week but went ahead and had the ones on there balanced and rotated with no change in sound. Also the front end creaks and squeaks like crazy coming down my driveway with is a half mile dirt road, and there is a popping knocking noise coming from somewhere in the rear whenever I hit the slightest bump. I can also make the knocking noise when I shake the steering wheel at highway speeds. Sorry for the long drawn out intro but just looking for some advice. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

What tires are on the truck?

Are you sure the creaking is from the front and not from the rear leaf springs? The leaf springs on these trucks are notoriously creaky. Used to drive me crazy when I first bought mine, but now I hardly notice it.

Where ever you feel the sound is coming from move that tire front or back and see if sound moves.

For creaks and stuff you need to lift it up and start inspecting stuff.

A little something every chance we get.
Welcome, I haven't ever modded stuff past "accessories", but I have one long bed in my history of 4 Tacos. It was always noisier that the short beds. All were double cabs, but that one made me the least happy. Compared to a bigger truck, you may not have the level of insulation you are used to, both mechanical parts and normal road noise. My wife thinks ours is nice and quiet at 194K, with fat AT tires.

Have fun, get used to it, and you will love it.

Morning. Wasn’t expecting that many welcomes. Lol. Bfg TaKo2 are the tires. The creaking noise is definitely coming from the front. i made the popping noise in the rear happen by shaking the truck side to side weird though as it popped a couple of times and wouldn’t do it any more, until I drove it of course.

Welcome to a Tacoma IMO not made like the others so little stuff like this is just them.

Rear leaf springs squeek like nuts.

The noise in the front can be a ton of things. It could horribly worn aggressive tread or a bearing.

I’m hoping it’s the tread on the wah wah sound. Plans on doing falken wildpeak at3’s next week. Oh and the size that’s on it is 285/75/16. The guy I purchased it from said the front bearings and hubs were replaced about 30k miles ago. IMO they should last longer than that. And the noise in the back it’s just kinda a knock knock sound. It’s always 2 knocks. I know that sounds crazy. Like something rolling around in the bed over the humps but there’s nothing back there. No spare tire either.

Ok so yesterday spent a little time under the truck. Found out my carrier bearing was to say the least shot. So I replaced it. Definitely helped the shudder I was feeling when taking off from a stop. Did find the popping noise I said I had. When my buddy shook the truck side to side from the back of the bed with me underneath I could my leaf springs moving side to side and see hear the popping noise there. Still don’t understand why they are popping though. I tightened the u bolts up to 50 lbs (which I’ve heard several different specs for this) still popped after that. Any suggestions would be awesome. Lol. I mentioned also the wah wah noise from the front end. Picked the front up and checked for any play in wheel bearings, nothing. Checked side to side and everything moves together with no slop in between. Spun the absolute hell out of the wheel and the only thing I can hear is brakes dragging the rotor a little.

Starting to lean towards the tires as the culprit. They are slightly cupped and I do get this vibration shake feeling that comes and goes from about 30mph to around 60. What do you guys think??
