Hello everyone, I just purchased my first Tacoma on the 1st of October. I traded in a 2001 f-350 with a 3 inch lift on 35s because it didn’t have a back seat that I could put my sons car seat in.
I am curious about how capable the Tacoma is off-road without any modifications. I am not a serious off roader, but do a lot of camping, hunting and fishing in the back country of Utah and sometimes surrounding states. I never had an issue with my ford because of the modifications, but with a new truck, I want to avoid changing anything. I am just wondering what issues if any you have ran into and what kind of obstacles you’ve made it through in a stock vehicle, as well as any thing else you think would be important to know. Thanks in advance!

Welcome. Sounds like I use my newer Tacoma the same way you plan to use it. My stock OR did very well on a recent bird hunting trip in northern Maine. My buddy commented on how he thought it was smoother over the rough roads than my F150 we used before. Went through some mud, a small beaver flowage, and rough roads with only one problem. Sliced a tire. I don't think the stock Wranglers are great for back roads, especially with the shale that most of the roads I was on are built with. I see some e-rated tires in my future.

Thanks for the input. I have already taken it on a bird hunt here in Utah and was very impressed in how smooth it was. I only drove about 5 miles off road and it was just washboard and flat so nothing to really test out the truck or tires. After I wear these tires down I see myself putting BFGOODRICH KO2s on it.
I’m sorry to hear about your tires. I worked in a tire shop throughout high school and we sold a ton of these Goodyear tires because of the “Kevlar sidewalls”

    Welcome to the herd.
You should be fine unless you take big risk.
You can't go wrong with BFG's KO2 or Nitto Trail Grapplers.
    Good Luck.
