I have the 4x4 access cab 3rd gen 4 banger and use it as my daily driver and to haul my 16.5foot alumacraft tiller boat around. Zero complaints here. I get the same city milage as my old vw 2.0L jetta when DD and the truck is an absolute beast in winter.

4x4 is roughly 500 pounds heavier not a big deal. lower gear ratio maybe 4.10s because it has bigger tires. The 2wd has a highway gear but tires are quite a bit smaller and skinny little guys

Minus a bunch of lbs, plus the rotating mass of energy thats lost when owning a 2wd vs 4wd with the extra running gear. Its a substantial amount of free hp gained when you have just a plain 2wd truck.

Not going to argue but the rotating mass of a disengaged 4wd system is nothing substantial.

I'll put your 4 cyl in perspective. I grew up in the 70's and started driving in the mid eighties. Drove a ton of 4 cylinder cars and trucks... Trust me when I say your current 4 banger would smoke the doors off those old cars. Most of those clunkers did not even make 100hp. A 4 cylinder 2 wd pick up truck is a perfect choice for what most folks need.... Essentially most of the features on my truck are wants I could do just as well with the model you chose. Enjoy your new ride man! It will last forever if you take care of it!
