Really, the only time I off-road is at deer camp. But I figure if crawl, mts, or lsd keeps me from getting stuck out there just one time, then it was a wise choice. I don't off-road all the time, so I'm not proficient at it. I'm secure enough that I don't feel threatened letting technology help me out.

I had this same dilemma a few months ago. Went to the dealer and was going to purchase the Sport, I really liked the look of the hood scoop and didn't think I needed the mts and locker. During the test drive the ride was stiff on the roads, I didn't mind, much harsher than a Highlander, but my wife thought it was a jarring ride. Sales guy talked me into trying the Off-Road. Immediately liked the ride better, soaked up the road bumps, very smooth on the highway. I do 75% highway, 20% local roads, 5% soft sand/beach driving. Exact same price between the Sport and Off-Road with the same options and color I wanted. For the sand/beach driving, I really like the extra traction the MTS provides, and I did need to use the locker twice to get me out of a sticky situation. Hit the switch and it plowed right up the dune (of course I only tried to go through it because I knew I had the locker). I still do really like the look of the hood scoop.
I would test drive them back to back if you can.
