Just went out and bought some cameras and installed them. also put up some motion sensing flood lights as well. Didn't think i'd need to in this area but guess i was wrong.

yep, no backup cam. that's actually how i found out it was stolen. I was backing out of my driveway and the camera didn't turn on. I thought it malfunctioned.

Not even close, there is a massive market for tailgates. People dent them all the time, so the used market is close to new price.

There is no money in used / (or obviously stolen) bed extender / tonneau covers, plus the fittings are slow to remove, so the don't often get stolen. Obviously you've learned to lock the tailgate, but even so stealing a locked tail gate is a 5min job at most, unlocked 1 min. You can only hope that the tilt or shock sensor triggers when they smash the lock.

dam! 1 min unlocked. so even if i lock it, there's still a chance that it gets stolen.

I know it sucks moving your stuff to get your truck in the garage. But at least you will sleep better at night.

It's been a problem in a few areas I've lived in. Reverse close to the garage door with a security light above the door is the best deterent. I say reverse because with the height of a truck you can usually walk up behind it and not trigger a security light.

definitely a pop n lock is the next thing i do. I hate having to walk all the way back there everytime and pull out my key to lock and unlock the tailgate. Why don't tacoma's have that as an option or standard.

Or you could try going back to the dealer, and tell them that the Truck didn't have one when you picked it up.

Sorry about your stolen tailgate, that has to be really frustrating. I need to do better about keeping mine locked now since I've started seeing more stolen tailgate threads.

Call your agent and ask how much your insurance will go up for the next 3 years and don't forget the deductible if you report it. It might be cheaper to not report it and do the fix yourself.
