    Hiya fellows,

Trying my hand at clutch replacement. (Don't let your friends drive your prized vehicle).

I have all the required parts and have begun disassembly. I fear I may have already screwed up by not marking rear drive shaft to transfer case...have I ruined timing? Can I fix before damage is done?

Phew, deep breath, getting back at it.

Definitely didnt affect your timing(engine timing that is if thats your concern?) my man, worst case scenario is there might be some slight vibes with the drive shaft not perfectly balanced now, if thats the timing you mean, live and learn i suppose...

No possible way to affect engine timing working on anything that has to do with the drive train!! Stop sweatin it you're golden on that end of things. Maybe you dont mean timing in regards to that but rather your worried about a misaligned drive shaft. It might create slight vibes like i already mentioned but that would be a fairly.easy fix since it would just take a test drive then a reposition to check for continued vibes and continue till they're gone...no damage would be done if the drive line is offset from its original position though, youre safe!

With reference to driveshaft timing the critical timing to be worried about is when you split a 2pc driveshaft. Is it better to put d-shaft back to original spot on rear-end and transfer case flange - yes. But you'll be fine.

    Thanks fellows. Much stress alleviated.

Currently having problems getting the tranny separated from motor.

I'm positive everything is unhooked...just could be frozen together given that it's 160k mileage truck and this has never been done before.

I had to step away from my project for a week but I'm back at it. Have shaken the literal hell out of tranny but it will not come loose! Even tried using pry bar but no luck.

Going to try and get some more muscles working on it with me next time I try.

Does it seperate at all? If not, there's gotta be a bolt still in bell housing somewhere, no?

Mine was the same way. Finally used a come-a-long to separate. Had separation anxiety or something.

You I hope have help ??

I would not wish anyone to be doing this alone

I have had to make a tool out of a chisel welded to a 20" piece of 3/4" pipe to tap things on both sides to get things started .

I had help. It stayed on the trans jack. Just needed a little help. Crazy how stuck it was.

Really appreciate the comments guys, and ideas.

All bolt removed most assuredly. Has partially separated but won't come free. Might need to use come-along. Best idea I've seen so far.

Can't get enough leverage with pry bar with tran-jack in the way.

I'll give it a go a bit later on with more man power and come-along.

Thanks a bunch everyone! Happy Saturday!

I think that culprit because that's how mine was is the pilot bearing.

Just be careful. I had pieces of 2x4 wedged around there in case it flung out to fast. Good luck!
