Just got my SR5 Fluid Filmed this weekend. Been doing research since I got it a few months ago and from what I found, especially from all the helpful people on these threads Fluid Film was the way to go. The dealer tried to sell me the tar based rubberized stuff and thank God I didn't do it. I found a lot of bad things about that especially with the cracks forming in the coating and holding moisture. I bought a can from Lowe's a few weeks ago and did a spot spray on the exposed frame in the wheel well and a couple days later the stuffed creeps 6 inches away from the original spot! I found an application center a few miles away and this guy was really meticulous, sprayed in all the insides of the frame with the hose extension and sprayed everything in sight, suspension, differential and even in the engine compartment. I like the idea of putting a rust protectant coating and still being able to see the frame and components. I figure I'll have the shop do the applications every few years and in between those I'll give it maintenance coats with the spray cans from Lowes. I also did the A/C drain extension modification per one of the threads I found here. The 5/8" I.D. heater hose fits around the small drain stub out perfectly. Anyone else doing the Fluid Film soon? Winter is coming!

I'm going to spray my frame/suspension with it before they start salting

After about the 3rd coat you will notice the protective quality of this stuff.

It will a little bit, not much. Once the dust and dirt gets in there it creates a thick barrier that you'd have to power wash off if you wanted to clean it. But why do that, it would be well aged by then. :D
I have been using FF for about 2 years now - once in the fall and then again in the spring.

I hope so, this is my first new vehicle I've ever bought and I want to try to maintain it the best I can. After I had the Fluid Film applied my garage definitely has a distinct odor to it! Doesn't bother me though. In the next few weeks I also plan on applying Meguiar's synthetic paint sealant, so I'll be good to go for the winter.

It will with a degreaser. If possible, I like to run my truck down a dusty road a few days after application to "seal" it. I'll be putting it on in a couple weeks and I take it off every spring

Is there any real benefit to getting this professionally applied v. just spraying it yourself? Seems like an expensive option..

It's not difficult to do yourself. They sell the attachment to spray into your frame rails on Amazon. It takes me about 2 hours to clean the underside and apply in my driveway.

https://corrosionfree.com/ seems to be better than fluid film. The application is super easy. I do it twice a year(I live in Vermont). I would highly recommend it to anyone who lives in the rust belt.

I use it. I like the way it flows out and sticks compared to fluid, the viscocity is different. What I have read about the testing of corrosion free, is that it performs better. Time will tell. But what the hell do I know..

I have read a bunch about both corrosion free and Fluid film, I keep going back and forth between the two.

Here's a pick of the rear wheel well where you can see the frame, it looks the same just has a "wet" look. The film is clear for the most part.

How much did it cost to do the entire truck? I'm starting to see some very little spots of rust where the frame is welded.. I pressure wash my truck every 2 weeks..: it is most like an enjoyable think for me than to really clean the truck.. and also I'm in miami (no winter) I don't know if undercoating my truck is justified.. also I don't have much extra money right now so I don't know..

Went to see a friend who owns a collision repair shop. Asked about frame rust. He said he has seen a lot of it especially on older Toyotas. He said go see another friend who owns a snow removal business. That friend runs 12-15 trucks in the winter. He told me he uses fluid film and has for years. I have an appointment to have it done to my new Taco tomorrow. My friend said he would do a good job and will charge me only $75.00.
