Roads here in Texas get pretty slick when it does rain since we don't get a lot of rain and the asphalt bakes in the hot sun all summer. You have to drive like you're on ice until it's rained long enough to wash all the slick crap off the road.

Yeah, I've heard of that and I should of mentioned that. I wasn't calling you out. That never really happens around here. And I would assume its not an issue where OP is either.

OP I saw your tire considerations. I have Dynapro ATMs, handle great in the snow. We got nailed last year and they drove great on snow covered highway and back roads.

I brought this up in a related thread, but I think there is a chance that a lot of this sliding has to do with being early in the season. The roads have not been salted or sanded at all yet, which makes a huge difference.

That, and weight, tires, 4x4, etc.

I have the Dynapro ATMs and I am gonna get hazed for this but they don't do as well as the stock duelers I had in snow. Seriously. I really don't think I'll buy them again.

I have a ARE LSII cap and about 50 pounds in the bed oh and a bed mat. Not sure the total weight what do you think?? Bottom line good snow tires and 4x4 when needed and the taco is the ultimate snow vehicle. Just put on new general ultimax. $100 each of tirerack

An AWD option (not 4WD) would be helpful in these cases. With "some" snow on the roadway I can feel the wheels bind when in 4WD (4runner). Took my AWD Lexus RX300 to a snow covered parking lot, couldn't get it to fishtail. It was like the SUV was on rails.

    Working on it.
Any SUV or Truck my family has ever owned has used the BFG All Terrain. If it was bought in winter....installed at dealer before driving off the lot or if it was summer, right before winter some were ordered. I have them on my truck now. They work great. If the price scares you, general tire make one in almost identical tread for much cheaper. AND USE 4WD!!! Thats what its there for.

My Hankook MT's were better for the wet coastal snow than my Hankook ATm's

The narrow tread pattern of the ATm seems to clog and not clear itself very well

I permanently disabled all electronic traction control systems, including ABS on my truck. It gets around pretty good on slick roads without all that stuff on there. I will admit the systems work well for inexperienced drivers, but if you are trying to push it at all and have fun they suck. I wish Toyota would have an option to turn it all off from the factory, kind of like a track mode or something. :D

My rule. Snow on the ground. 4 wheel drive always. I bought my Tacoma SR5 last jan. I used the tires that came with the truck. Had no problem all winter in the snow. This winter I bought some Blizaks. This will be weapon.

Sorry for no picture, I'll try to upload one asap. FWIW, I rolled my '04 going 60 on some uber scary black ice. It was my first time in a taco, not in 4x4, no weight in bed. The road was clean and clear. It had not yet snowed, but some runoff had frozen on the roadway. I fishtailed, then rolled 3.5 times, landing on the roof. I walked unharmed, taco was totaled. My new '13 TRD Off Road has like 9 different drive modes, some of which would have helped to prevent this kind of thing from happening. That, and the best Snow Tires money can buy, Nokians. Get them now, live life later.

Luckily your "lesson" did not cost you $$$$..

Weight in that bed...sand bags work great PLUS you can always tear one for some OOPS traction needs..

Tires; Bridgestones SUCK but they were on my Taco for 2 winters..air them down a touch and "Learn" that 180 breakaway point..;)....even with weight in the back , these trucks will "Dance" in 2wd......
A little bias here BUT my Grabber AT2's have been great to me in NH winters...

Just to cover your butt you might want to chat with your insurance advisor and a lawyer about that... just saying. Anyone know if the black box can tell if these systems have been permantly disabled?
