If all you had was the bed I might have just gotten a couple 2x4's angled them in the box towards the passinger side, put the box spring in first and the mattress on top and strapped it in. Last year I hauled 7 mattresses in my 5' box 3 twin 4 full size to the cabin 100 miles away. X strapped from the front box hooks to the hitch safety chain eyes and 1 in the back around the top on the D rings, worked great. I thought about renting a trailer for about 5 minutes till I found no availability that weekend. I have pulled several boats and other trailers. It just takes practice and since I sold my boat I only tow once a year. But there have been some good tips.

If he could afford a couple of 2x4s he would just buy a trailer, not rent one.

    o_O $10.00 vs $20.00^^^^ 2x's half the cost.
    Today's cost

That's how I learned. I don't know about cheating, but it feels unnatural gripping the steering wheel near the bottom. Once you get the hang of it though, the hands migrate back to a more natural driving position.

I was just being facetious lol. I have backed up trailers so much that it really doesn't matter where my hands are but typically my hand is on top of the wheel going straight.

I got that it was meant playfully. I didn't take it as admonishment. Lol

Wow actually the tips posted in here about hands at 4&8 along with turn back some once the trailer starts to turn the direction you want really helped me out.

I got to the campground and was able to get my pop up backed in to my site. Only had to pull up and correct a few times. I got way more quickly than I think I ever have. I might actually be getting it after all this time.

It was a joke about the exorbitant cost of lumber lately. I guess you didn't get it.

damn. Having a stock OR really makes a difference!!!

I just towed a 5x8 uhaul trailer with a little more weight than you and got 11 mpg. About 340 miles one way. The fuel was a quarter full, ignore the almost full tank.

    Just drive it.

About 1,300lb or so with a lot of bad aero. About 50mi and 20mpg.
