Just bought a Tacoma, first Toyota ever for me. Always had American...hmmm wait a second. I think this Tacoma is the first American built (Fremont, CA the sticker said) vehicle I've bought in a long while.

What made me switch? I've always driven Dodge and GM products, all full size pickups. I always was attracted to the Tacoma for some reason. Of course, Toyota's reputation has been legendary for a number of years.
I suppose it was mainly the fuel issue. I got to the Tacoma that way mostly. I was in a 2500HD Chevrolet with Duramax (still have it). When diesel hit the $5 mark I felt I had to park it. Picked up a 02 Dakota with a V6 earlier this year, with less than stellar results.
People in my line of work simply do not drive small pickups. In fact anything less than a 3/4 ton will draw wise cracks. It is unspoken that we must ride around in monsterous diesel powered beasts, by ourselves 95% of the time. Also, it is apparently a crime to use the power and capability the diesel affords the owner on a regular basis. I got along just fine all irrigation season long with my Dakota, and plan to get by even better with the Tacoma.

Go off road with your buddies. Their full size pickups will get stuck super fast. Then laugh at them while you wheel past them. They only need to see your Tacoma off road once to appreciate it. My beat partner drives a 08 silverado 2500 diesel with about 9" of lift. Looks great but he even admits my Taco would blow his truck out of the water. Plus he marvels at my ability to make U turns. Ha Ha
