I’m 18 and was just given my first vehicle which is a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport. I overall love the truck and everything it has to offer but I feel like the truck is bouncy so to speak. Is this normal on Tacomas? It doesn’t really bother me I was just curious.

Congrats on the Truck, the TRD Sport has the harshest ride of all the Tacoma's, you can always upgrade the suspension

I found the sport was pretty “bouncy”. It doesn’t do very well on bumps. I switched out the OEM shocks to bilstein 5100’s and it handles a lot better. I have a 2017 TRD Sport as well.

This. OP, do you mean bouncy as in the ride is harsh, or bouncy as in a lot of up and down movement, or what?

One of the best things about owning a Tacoma is the availability of aftermarket parts, you should be able to pretty much set up your suspension to your liking.

Yeah that's the sport suspension. It's very stiff. The trade-off is you get relatively good handling with it. The stiff ride isn't for everyone, though.

Wow , thats a nice first vehicle! Congrats man! My first vehicle was mazda b2200 5 spd haha. If your truck is not loaded the rear will feel a bit bouncy, its normal since you have leaf springs in the back. Also, its a trd sport, so it has sport tuned suspension which is quite harsh on bumps. Enjoy your truck!

I never test drove the Sports, but if an 18 year old is complaining about the suspension then it must be pretty harsh.

Compared to an 85 Cadillac it’s stiff. On the other hand it doesn’t give you motion sickness. I like it, most folks can’t hang with me on a sweeping decreasing radius curve.

I agree the Sport is a bit harsh, but I love the handling here on the hilly and curvy southern Ohio roads. I drive in West Virginia quite a bit and the Sport loves the curves. My main passion is motorcycles, preferably sport bikes so I like anything that corners well and while my Sport isn't a Vette it dances well for a fat girl.

I'm with ya man. It's a lot stiffer than my 1989 Lincoln Town Car (couch ride)…. Entering the curves, I leave everyone behind. I love the stiff ride the way it is. My neighbour uses 2 sand bags to smooth it out a bit.

It's the hood scoop that makes the ride bouncy. Sorry, had to be the first one on TW to say it. Congrats on the new truck and welcome to TW.

You might check the tire pressure. Sometimes they over inflate them. There is a label when you open the front door to show the correct pressure.

+1, Toyota gives you a place to start that may be enough for 90% of the public. The 1% of owners on TW help each other tweak these trucks into almost whatever you want it to be.
