Bought my 96 v6 auto DLX xtracab 4wd a month ago. 270k on it. I love it. Plan on doing a lot of work, keeping it a long time, and using it for a lot of truck stuff adventures.

    Day I bought it:
Suspension is shot/possibly original. p225 tires.

Put a lot of time (and $) into the truck since the suspension and tires. Got the tires from 4wheel parts, but the couldn’t do alignment due to several steering components being bad. Here is list of things since then:

    Front diff drop
    Steering rack
    Inner and outer tie rods
    Lower ball joints
    Steering rack poly bushings
    Sway bar poly bushings
Lower control arm white line bushings
Spent 4 million hours cleaning out old oil and mud caked on everything from years of neglect.

After I got alignment finally done. I moved on to obvious valve cover leak.

Did complete valve cover job with new cam seals, half moons, spark tube seals, and plenum gaskets.

Also, went ahead and change plug wires. Coil packs seem fine.

And had to buy new battery.

It’s been a few months since valve cover job. No sign of any leaks. Or from radiator. As well as steering components and power steering fluid/pump all seem great.

Soon I have to do full timing belt job. It’s been 110k miles since last, according to sticker on cover. Also, I can hear one of the accessory belts whining at full stops.

After that. Just need to change all the fluids, since I have no idea when the last time any of them were done.

Other than that. Pretty happy with progress. Ready to have it fully ready for spring fishing.
