Not new to fishing but pretty inexperienced. I’ve fished in saltwater but now that I’m in Arizona it’s only freshwater.

So far I’m able to land trout, but I want more of a challenge.

I hear bass are best to catch in spring, what are some good tips for bass?

you got some striped bass and those are fun and good eating. I think you can use live bait there, hook two gizzard shad through the eyes and use this rig. and either hold on to your pole or put it in a pole holder. Id use a circle hook but this gives you an idea.

for large mouth a 3/0 4/0 hook and pumpkin with red flake senko (5" worm) texas or carolina rig. wait 2-3 seconds to set the hook after the first bite. http://www.krakenbass.com/weightless-texas-rig-senko/

images_6867cf2d3b20ef89c7df378bcae7aec1fd00dbfc.jpg <----#4 is texas different colored worms, have to find what works best for your water but watermelon with red flake is a good start. different speed retrieval, let it sink or retrieve stop retrieve stop etc. colder the water the slower you retrieve.

Went to the northwest sportsmans show today at the Minneapolis convention center. Convinced myself I needed a new bait casting rod and a bunch of bass plastics.

Just a good thing I don't have the funds and vacation time to book a trip with any of the lodges that were at the show.

I usually have to put a blindfold on and have my friends lead me around so I don't walk out with the whole store.

I was able to get out for a little bit this morning. I landed two nice Browns on a white rooster tail. It was pretty cold. My rod guides were freezing. image.jpg

Fishing and hunting are some EXPENSIVE hobbies. There have been a few times I've had a few beers and ordered +$500 worth of stuff online. Oh well, totally worth it.

My first experience with salt water fish. It was fun. Roughly 35” and over 20 lbs For the big one.

Nice, that’s an amazing start for your first time in the salt. They’re hard fighting fish, especially on light tackle. Drum are my favorite fish to catch, hence my username.

Any of you anglers start using microwave guides for braid? I love braid but it has one detriment...wind/air knots. I throw a lot of plugs when surf fishing and these knots happen the majority time with plugs, due to the action and retrieve.

I've heard mixed reviews on the microwave guides. Never used them myself but I did notice some manufacturers taking them off some models of rods when I worked at Gander Mountain.

Any lb test when throwing lures, 12-30 lb. When bait fishing I have no issues.
