I've hooked myself a few times but for some reason it's worse when another angler does it to me.

My wife and I enjoy the beach. I always bring a few rods and soak some bait while sitting with her. Stone Harbor, NJ rule for beach fishing is to stay within 20 yards of the groin, I comply. Over the past few years the complaints about the fishermen (me) have been increasing. The lifeguards approach me and say... people are reporting I’m throwing sharks on the beach, I’m walking into the surf too far to cast, how I’m allowed to fish between bathers... Yada yada. It’s getting old but I guess that’s people !
    Rant over.

my dad hooked me in the head when I was 5 years old. he cut the line and left the hook in my head for the doctor to pull out.
Do you remember those popsicles that came with 2 sticks so you could share with your brother/sister? That day, I got the whole popsicle.

anybody here fish the Arkansas diamond lakes? Thinking of renting a condo over Thanksgiving and dragging my boat up there with me (from Louisiana) and I was wondering if anybody had any tips for bass, crappie, or anything really. Those lakes (Hamilton, degray, Ouachita) are so different from where I live that I dont really know where to start, especially in the fall.

Bait finesse system. Basically an ultralight bait caster where you throw stuff down to 1/32'nd. It's apparently been creeping over here from Japan

I didn't even check honestly. We were all slamming some cold ones and I just weighed it and set it free! Biggest fish by far from that pond. I didn't tell the story but this pond has A LOT of weeds. Luckily my buddy decided to jump in one of the kayaks and fish so when I hooked into this fish I knew it was huge and I yelled for him to come help with the kayak because the fish got hung up in the weeds and I didn't want to lose it. If he hadn't been in the kayak I would have been wading in baby! I lost a big one that size there last year because it got hung up in the weeds and I wasn't gonna let it happen again!!!

I think I have a problem with buying rods... I went in to Walmart to get some jelly and hot Italian sausage. Decided to check out the fishing section to see if they have any new soft plastics (they didn't) but while I was there I thought maybe I should check and see if they have anymore of the rod I like... well they did, and another rod I wanted.. and another rod I wanted too... So I grabbed 2 of the 3 rods I wanted. Then I realized, wait I need reels for these new rods too, I mean I didn't need reels, but I didn't want to put my 1990s quantums on brand new rods. So I grabbed a pair of lew's reels.... Oh, I should get some braid for these new reels too!

I swapped the 35 series reel from my fav rod to the smaller of the new rods I got, then put the 2 lew's 30 series reels on both my 6,6 mediums that I use normally.

    Haha. Fun!

me? Came home for home for lunch to SAVE SOME MONEY. irony alert! I’m eating microwave leftovers, feeling pretty good about my fiscal Kung-fu and I see it! Dang, my coin jar is getting kinda full! Hmmmmmm. I take the jar to a counting machine. (No fee)

badabang! Now I own a new Daiwa Procyon 2500 series spinning reel. And I have 67 cents left in the coin jar.

paired it with my new Sixgills medium 7foot3 rod. (The rod is alright). Is my finesse setup. Senkos and drop-shot). FRESH 10LB yellow braid. 8lb flouro-leader.

Just so you know, your reel cost more than I paid for both rods, both reels, 2 rolls of braid, a 10 pack of tortillas, 2 jars of jelly and a 6 pack of hot italian sausages.

Eventually I will step up to the nice stuff, but for now I have a army of ugly stik gx2 rods and sub $50 reels

the most expensive reel I have is a abu black max low profile baitcaster at $50... next up are the 2 lew's I got for $35 each. The rest of my reels came with the gx2 rods (rod and reel combo costs 49.99, The rods by them selves sell for 39.99, so the reels are 10 bucks each.)

I do have 2 old quantum sx3 reels that I like, but they are very very old, so they go on my loaner rod (garage sale items)

I’ve gone insane. It’s true. The only time I LOVED an UglyStick was when I got one caught up in a car door in Mexico. BOMB-PROOF! It didn’t break. I saved and saved for the fishing trip and had no money for the gear. But some other fishermen loaned me one high end rod. The difference in feel was profound. Fishing a worm, Texas-rigged. The “tap tap tap” of a bass is so gentle. To use my ugly stick I had to bridge the line over my thumb as I worked the bait.

I work hard and drive a 2006 truck.

baitcasters? My good one I can reel it by flipping the handle with a finger flick from the same hand holding the rod. It spins with a flick! My older ones, the reel won’t spin like that. I think I’ll buy left hand reels from now on.
