When you get your lure on reduce the drag hold rod at a 45# angle. Release the bail and let the lure drop if when it gets to the ground and stop you are good. If the spool still releases then tighten it up.....

I have found that reels without magnetic brakes cast a lot better for me than reels with the mag brakes, has anyone else had the same experience

Turn the brake all the way up for a while until you get used to it. Then you can turn the brake down a notch until you are used to that. The biggest difference when you are actually casting is to release the spool a little early. You want to lure to roll with and arc not a straight line in the water. I was working on this a little bit today. I really went a lot farther then releasing too early or too late.

some shitty ass fishing this weekend so far

i threw about everything in the box in the water and we caught 3 bass...1 big enough to keep but threw him back too...oh and a stupid gar that was about 4 feet long and weighed in at 9.5lbs...pulled him in on 4lb test

hitting a different lake in the AM to see what's what

Fishing reports are saying our normal lake has fair on all the game fish right now for some weird reason...another lake up the road is reporting good on bass, cat, and crappie...so hopefully saturday i dont get skunked

Any recomendations or suggestions for catfish hooks? I'm new to cat fishing so any rig recommendations, hooks, or bait would be appreciated.

Last time we threw a simple drop rig anchored with a piramid weight and night crawlers. We had some successes but lost a big one when the line snapped or my knot gave out. Whatever it was it pulled our John boat 10 yards before we lost it.

I use circle hooks for cats

As far as bait goes, really any ole smelly thing will work...I'm a big fan of chicken parts (if you use liver then you need a mesh bag) and shrimp

There have been 30-40 lb catfish caugh regularly in that part of the lake but a turtle is the most likely scenario. I like to think it was a fish though. :p

    Its the stealth 12.

The middle hatch can be used for storage or as a bait well. you can even hook up a pump to it. CRAZY stuff...now i just gotta hope the damn thing survives this little tropical storm we got rollin in.

Nice looking Kayak. I dont know if it is everywhere but the fishing has slowed down to a crawl around me. I have went fishing 2 days in a row and only got 2 small fish each day. I have been out around 2 pm just before a storm and 11:30 AM on a super hot day and not much luck ovr this weekend. Anyone else feeling a major slowdown?
