Yeah I think I'm going with the field and stream since its in stock locally so shipping wouldn't kill the deal lol. Plus they offer a 10% off if i use their credit which i usually go for then pay it off and cancel the credit line lol

I have not paddled the Field and Stream but I have checked it out in store. At ~$600, it seems to be about 80% of what I got out of my Ocean Kayak for about 60% of the money. I think it would be a great starter boat. A little heavier and missing a few bells & whistles, but it should track fairly straight & be moderately fast.

Depending on your budget and whats available, I would recommend looking into Perception Pescador 120 or Ocean Kayak Prowler 13. Both of these are ocean capable without breaking the bank. Both of these kayaks at Academy are best price I seen, but I know you don’t have one nearby. I definitely would recommend going with these particular brands as there are legitimate and great value without sacrificing quality. I almost went with these for myself, but ulitmatley decided on a the Moken. I don’t know about Bass Pro yaks, as I never tried them. You can also check https://www.austinkayak.com, they offer free shipping and some kayaks are 15% off as well. This is where I got mine, their local to me as well.

I have the ascend fs12t and I like it, I use it mostly in lakes and rivers but have taken it out in the bay for flounder and redfish and it does just fine. Only thing is it's heavy and hard to maneuver some times but it's super stable and I can stand and fish with no problem.

The Pescador is an awesome starter/mid level kayak. Tried and true hull design, tracks well, and solid value.

Academy had them on sale about 2 months back or so for about $399. Almost made me pick up a 2nd yak.

I fish out of a sit in kayak every year. Its one of those none ocean rec kayaks that i use in the ocean lol. It took a bit to learn how to do it all on my own without someone netting the fish for me. Basically when i get to the school of salmon, i put the paddle inside the boat, and pull my rod out.
When you hook a coho, it tows the kayak all over the place lol. So much fun

Once you have the fish near the boat its gets tricky juggling the rod and net. Put the fish on my lap club it and reach around to the hatch. Only fell in once lol.
It can be a bit unsafe but its a short swim to shore if I flip. To be fair as well, where i do this is a long Inlet that never gets very big waves.

Yup, my brother did the same for me. He has 3 of them, now I have my own. Nice to have an extra for when family and friends come around.

Hey guys, I wanted to see if anyone has tried a kayak from Vibe Kayaks(vibekayaks.com) on here? They have a pretty good deal on their fishing kayak right now, $799 with free shipping, it comes pretty will equipped and it looks like it has gotten good reviews from what I have seen.

Just saw this thread... my brother who is actually a pro mountain biker, just snagged the cover of Kayak Fish Mag. He had been racing bikes since he was 13, and wants to now become a pro fisherman. lol
