I used to have a sea ghost. Great kayaks. I got a hobie mirage drive so I sold the vibe. The vibes have one of the highest weight caps at around 500 lbs if I'm not mistaken.

I’m looking for a kayak mainly for canals and lakes. I’m looking into the sun dolphin journey 10 ss and the lifetime tamarack angler. They are both on the cheap side when it comes to kayaks but also reputable. Any of you guys familiar with these? If so which do you recommend? 195E5B95-D93E-4BFD-990E-C87304F409BF.jpgF48A91E1-0399-40F4-9582-8CF2298E68F5.jpg

It handled great. If I wanted a paddle yak I'd go with it again. Plenty of room and storage.

Just stumbled onto this great thread. There are some great posts but I'm still trying to catch up. I have a FeelFree Lure 11.5 and just fish freshwater lakes, creeks and rivers year-round.

Don’t fish out of it as much as I’d like to....because the wife likes cruising the rivers but I love my Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120, She’s got the 100. Made her’s an anniversary gift the day I bought mine.....good thinking. The Taco in the photo is my old one, now have a ‘17 TRD OR LB Quicksand. Loaded up to 4 on a T-bone and in the bed vs on the toolbox in the SB, LB should work out even better. Anyone have a good way to get a Large (14ft) and fairly heavy (105lbs) Kayak/ Paddleboard up onto the roof level of a lifted Taco? My 2017 OR has a 2.5" OME lift and is soon going to have a new Go Fast Camper with Racks this will put the roof height at about 7 feet...

I do NOT want to tow a trailer, as I'll be heading from NY to the Outer Banks in July, and than from NY to The Florida Keys in Oct (pending weather of course), and just don't want to deal with towing a trailer all that way.

I have been looking at the Yakima Showdown, but it's rated to 80lbs, perhaps and industrial type ladder rack for contractor vans? The roof Rack for the Camper is rated at 500lbs so that's not a problem but I do want to be able to get it up and down myself. I'm a fairly young and strong guy, but I don't want to hurt myself or my boat in the process.

Thank you SOOOOOOO much for any help you may provide, I've googled to the best of my ability and came up with NADA.

You could bed load with a T-bone hitch mount. Pictured are a 12’5”, 12’ and two 10 footers, you should have no problem with a 14. T-bone will support 300#. You could also google boathoist which uses a small winch system or the Thule Hullavator if you really want to get on roof. I made a light rig that goes into my 4flat and straps to the end of longest yak to get taillights and turns to the end of the longest boat. Photo is previous short bed but will use the same system for new long bed and I lose 20” of bed to the tool box. Much prefer to rope in my kayaks vs ratchet straps -no fear of crushing skupper separations or having metal ratchets eat my boats. My trips are usually less than 150 Miles one way but absolutely no issues with good anchor line and some knowledge of knots. I never tie anything that doesn’t release or untie easily. Good floating ‍♀️D77DF63E-7E27-4A32-B294-422B31B94310.jpg

I just notice the Thule option is also 75# rated. The StrongArm by boathoist is rated at 145#. Not sure about their boathoist option that sideloads with the winch being available in the USA.

Finished up my install of my Yakima system to hold my new fishing kayak.

Landing pad 6’s through bolted to the Decked Drawer system. Built a 1/4” piece of stainless to allow the towers to be bolted to around the molded in steel reinforcements in the Decked system.

Back rack is a Yakima Longarm, picked it because it actually WORKS with the Decked drawer height i needed to deal with. And it adjusts all the way up to cab height (with extension) and all the way down to stock bed height.... plus it has a setting for rail height if you wanted cross bars like KB Voodoo there... pretty much the coolest thing ever lol.... super happy i stumbled onto it for use with my drawers.

At the current set up i have 9 ft of length to support a Boat and a rating of 300lbs at angle on that Yakima Long Arm... enough for even the heaviest fishing kayak.

***posted this on another thread as well***

But thought maybe someone could benefit from it here as well.
