Fishing out of a kayak?

Picked up my 2019 hobie outback friday and caught a few good reds already. Love this kayak. Dont have any regrets

 

Thank you, that's the most information I've read about it since watching the ICast video.

 

It wont have reverse though.. pretty much the 1st gen mirage drive

 

From some of the YouTube anglers I follow, it appears the 180 drive needs more R&D. These guys have problems with it constantly.

 

I been using mine for about 14 hours straight., and its pretty dam awesome. I havent heard anything negative about it though besides the cables snapping that you pull to flip the fins

 

Finally finished this project, but plastidip was a bad choice. Will remove it, and use a bed liner coating soon.

I'm thinking of making something similar to that but I want it to sit above the bed and so I can still close the tailgate. Do you have a writeuwr or what you usesto mount it?

the relentless fab only has 2 holes and the dont line up with these quick fists.
had to drill 2 holes on each.

also, had to use a 1 1/4" spacer to clear that hump, seen here:


had some stainless 2" bolts from another project laying around that i used to attach it all.

 

Well, I went to a Pelican dealer and the rep talked me out of purchasing the Pelican 130. Apparently the hull is not conducive to ocean waves. I'm back to the Hobie Outback.

 

I am really digging this setup. Do you have any details on the build?

 

The basic trailer is a Malone Xtralight. I added the cargo trunk but it does come as a kit but it's expensive for what it is. Rather than the kit I pieced it together after I found the individual components. Cost me maybe $65 or so as compared to the kit at $110. The cargo rack is a Harbor Freight hitch rack and I just eliminated the center bar that would slide into the hitch and bolted the 2 sides together. I used aluminum rectangular tubing to raise it a little to clear the fenders. I did have to drill some holes in the rack to secure it to the rectangular tubing. All stainless hardware was used. I also added the spare tire and mount because none of the trailers come with a spare. To hold the kayaks I opted for the TMS kayak cradles as they were the cheapest and had good reviews. The orange marker poles are actually from Walmart and fitted with quick disconnects because they would interfere with the kayaks. I put them on when I have to transport the trailer empty like getting it inspected and such just so I can see the empty trailer while towing.....

 

Man i love my hobie outback. I have no regrets on it. It was pricy but youre paying for proven convenience. I need about another 1k to finish her up how i want.,

Powerpole micro and a fishfinder. Lowrance hook2-5 tripleshot. Breaking the bank but i plan on fishing alot in texas and florida. Goal is to land a mahi mahi this year lol

 

Nice, I'd have to have a motor boat take me and my kayak out to where the Dorado are up here in NJ, they're usually no closer than 10-15 miles out.

 

Yeah they come in about 2-3 miles in florida. Lets see how it works

Thanks man. One thing is wait for a boat show.. thats the only way youll ever get a discount . Its 10% off. Im not sure what color you like but if i had to buy again, id get the camo. Any other color gets dirty in the textured parts
