Damn it I've never been so indecisive about somthing in my life. I keep switch between 265 (ease of fitting and least amount of power loss) to 275 (they look great but are E load range and heavy, prob ride like a tank) to 285 (also look great might be able to find a set in C load range but seems like a pain to fit. Seems like everyone has diffrent experience with them some rub some don't.) Hell I've even considered 255/80/17s (I think I may be a fan of the look but just not sure since not many ppl run them on 3rd gens)

I rubbed while stuffed on 255/80-17's too. 265/75-16 fit perfect but are small with any amount of lift.

    No.
That combo makes the outside of the tire/wheel stick out 2-1/8", on each side.

I've pretty much decided I can't go with those wheels. I like the look of them but they are too much of a pain in the ass to mess with for me. Like I said this is a daily driver. Having a hard time justifying anything over a 265 besides the fact that 275 or 285 looks better. As far as wheels go I'll be looking at somthing with a 0 offset or close to that.

Here's a neat calculator to help you in your search.
Stock Sport wheel is 17"x7.5" 30mm offset.

@iveko82 just be sure to do some research, ask local shops, and use that fancy calculator posted above. The price difference is going to be minimal (in the grand scheme of things) when deciding between 265's and 285's so might as well get what you want vs. buying what you don't want because you may deal with rubbing. I believe aussiek2000 doesn't have a 3" lift which is why he was dealing with some huge rubbing problems.

I am running the exact setup you are wanting (285/70/r17 BFG ko2 on Ultra 107 xtreme SB 17x8.5 with a +1 offset) and only have issues rubbing when fully turned and going over the bump in my driveway. Other than that, 0 rubbing issues. I can (and probably will) do some minor trimming but at this time, I don't feel like messing with it since it is less than 1% of the time i have to deal with it. Just don't buy something you don't want or you wont be happy with.

Thank you for the info. That calculator works out great. I didn't realize the stock sport wheels were a plus 30mm no wonder they are in so far.
That gives me some more confidence as far as running 285s. A little rubbing I'm ok with but somthing about taking a cutoff wheel to my new trucks gives me a weird feeling in my stomach haha. Like I said before the most off road this truck sees is a dirt road. Too may hills and trees in upper WV for a new truck (atleast for me).

I am in the same boat as you. I have a cabin in Wytheville VA and the most off road my truck sees is through the cow pasture to get back to the cabin. Don't plan on doing any rock crawling/major off-roading any time soon. Let me know if there is anything i can answer for you. I have probably asked all of the same questions. The calculator helped out really well. 1 suggestion though....do your self a favor and get the UCA's when buying a lift kit. My BFG cost $1000 and had I not bought new UCA's alignment would have been off and I would be buying tires a lot quicker than anticipated.

Have you considered wheel spacers? I believe they exist in 1.25" and up

I ordered myself a set of Vision wheels
R17 X 8 +25 offset (the stocks are R17x7.5 +30) to make up for the wider rim although it'll seat 0.054" closer in, with Pro Comp A/T Sport tires LT265/70R17E, if the set rubs I'll add a 1/16" shim behind the rim.
Also if I ever want to go with the 285s I'm thinking of a 1.25" spacer.

I hope this helps you decide (I spent a week of researching and some math)

-by the way, I leveled the truck 3" and 1"

Pretty sure with adjustable ucas you don't need to trim much if at all depending on rim specs and such with 285s as long as castor is higher

Report: I installed Pro Comp AT Sport 265/70R17 & wheel 17X8 +25 and there's RUBBING, it happened pulling out of the tire shop, I can't imagine off roading, I might add wheel spacers, (see pic) stock wheel is R17X7.5 +30

Current 5.484" stock was 5.43", keep in mind that this is the wheel alone. The tires are 265/70 instead of 265/65

    I hope this helps

Did you put those wheels on already? I have KMC 17x9 with -12 offset and I tried putting 285's on and they rubbed super hard. Like turn the wheel 4 inches and they rubbed super hard. (I put 6112 bilsteins at the 4th notch which is little over 2 inches of lift.)

I think 9 inch wheels with -12 offset does not work with tacoma's. I put 265/70/17's and they still rub at 80% turn of the wheel unless on completely level ground.

Wow, I would have thought on the cab mount but on the Lower Control Arm?

This is my set up compared to yours. Mine is rubbing on the Cab mount
