Another thread revive! I just fit a 285/75/16 Falken Wildpeak on the stock steel spare wheel. I bent back the mounts but left them snug against the tire to not hit the diff.

Yet another thread revive! Can someone let me know if a 285/70/17 mounted on SCS 17x8.5 will fit in the spare location of a 3rd gen? I'm one of those idiots that has been running around without a full size spare because I didn't want to carry it in the bed. Wise me has realized the stocker spare won't work. It appears from posts in this thread that it may work, will definitely be tight, and might run too close to the exhaust. Any opinions, input, advice, or general rants? Again, thank you all....

I put a 285/70R17 BFG KO2 on a 17x8.5 SCS F5 down there before I got my high clearance bumper. I chopped off the tail pipe (was doing anyways), relocated the hoist, and flattened the guides. If you wanted to keep the tail pipe, you could only flatten the driver side guide and try to pull it to the driver side as you raise it.

THANK YOU!! Great post and very informative write up. I think I'll try to flatten the driver side guide first, and see where I land. If that doesn't work I have the information I need. I really appreciate the input...

Any issues with the tire resting against the exhaust hanger? Mine did this and I wasn’t sure if this was alright, so I took the spare out.

also, I did the relocation and drilled the extra holes.

what’s the verdict on the exhaust hanger?

    I relocated my spare today. It’s a 33 x 11.50 Kenda klever.

it fits, but the tire is hitting the exhaust hanger. On the other side it’s butted up against the leaf spring bracket.

Can anyone comment on the tire being this close to the exhaust? Ok?

That looks like about 1/4 inch clearance. Any issues?

Here's the clearance I have. Been about 9k miles including last 110 degree summer. No issues.

Perfect. Thanks, dude! Are you bumped up against the leaf spring bracket on the other side?

It literally takes 5 minutes. Lay down the little centering guide for the stock spare with a hammer. Push the spare to the left (from the rear) and crank it up. I've raised and lowered it 3 or 4 times without issue. It's a ridge grappler 285/70/17 on an SCS Br6 17x8.5 -10mm

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
If you’re worried you could get the heating insulation and wrap that part of your exhaust to protect your tire.
It has the yellow fibreglass mated to a tinfoil.

I redrilled the cross member and put the hoist a little further back. Better clearance that way but definitely took longer than 5 minutes. More like 30

Thanks for all the info everyone. I banged the guides back but didn’t realize almost everyone here has stock exhaust. I’ve got a Borla catback and the rear pipe doesn’t angle to the side after coming down from the rear axle so I cant get past the tire hitting the exhaust pipe and driver side leaf spring bracket thing.

Any ideas or am I stuck carrying this in the bed? Sucks as I just bought the trd pro wheel and wildpeak 285/70/17 brand new.

How did you get to the nuts on the cross member and what size socket? Man I had a hard time getting to them.
