I’d like a street legal ultra 4 car basically haha. At least that’s how my truck gets abused. 2k mile round trip to run the rubicon, then smashing whoops at 60mph a few weeks later.

Have you been to Johnson valley and run any of the trails?

Not yet, but I really want to. Almost went to koh last year and really wanted to go this coming year, but wedding stuff is getting in my way.

Once you go it will completely change your perspective about what an ultra 4 car can really do. Our Tacoma’s wouldn’t make it 5ft on any of the trails. Our trucks are fun for mild trails and smaller dunes but if you want to run the real trails are trucks don’t even come close

Let me build some belly skids and someone sponsor me to put rcv axles in and I’ll give it a go. Won’t be as pretty as an ultra 4, but I’d bet I’d make it more than that that 5ft

I can build skids, just need the axles and probably need to wait til after my wedding in the spring.

Next fall after it cools back down again?

Well we may have to keep in touch. Worst case I chicken out completely (unlikely), or don’t make it past the first 5 feet (a bet I’m more than happy to make) and we have to work up some sort of payment plan to pay you back for axles. Either way I get axles ahead of what my budget can schedule, you’ll likely get a show, and everyone gets to hang out at an awesome spot for a weekend.

Temperature wise? Ask @nd4spdbh how the mid August Mojave trail run we did was lol. Amazing other than the 120+ temps

Wedding delays? You can deal with the fiancé for that. Warning, she’s never wrong and approves all mods if they help us not break down or get stuck.

Labor Day weekend? Sept 7? Should give most people extra incentive and possibly an extra day off

Well the next 5 months the weather is perfect there, I’m sure she will understand that you can’t back down from this challenge. Seriously there is no shame in backing out. As someone who has been going there for two decades now I can promise you your truck won’t go anywhere on these trails

    She’d be hesitant but understand.

I mean if this little yota can win the race, I think I could get through? 9896847A-EAF0-41EF-B696-BE98CD9F286A.jpg

You are forgetting about the custom high steer kit with a ram assist to push the tires around. A Tacoma rack will die almost instantly there. Also that truck has a flat belly and is much lighter than a Tacoma

Older pickups/tacomas also have a waaaaayyy higher frame compared to 2nd/3rd gens. Their break over angle is far superior
