I can't leave anything well enough alone
I prepped some stock LCA to use when I put the lower pivot kit on. Wrapped the bushing eyelets with 3/16 steel strap tied to the body of the arm, whiteline bushings that I drilled and tapped zerk fittings for super lube, customized skid plates that still bolt on (so I did not weld up all the holes), and I sourced new OEM ball joints because I just wasn't happy with the Moog joints when I held them and tried to move them around. The greaseable joints seen in the LT kits look really nice, I'd have gone with that if I could have. All in all it was a lot of work, and undoubtedly heavier than a new fabricated unit with the skids installed. But I'm happy with them.

There's actually been quite a several failures with the CVT axles. Some guys on the FJ's had problems originally with axle lengths. Other people I think have had binding on the outer joint while loading up the axle under heavy steer. Not saying they aren't an improvement over stock, but they aren't bullet proof.

The FJ and the Tacoma control arm pivots appear to me to be approximately 1" difference. The FJ almost 1" narrower than the Tacoma. However the frames are VERY similar where the lower control arms mount, so the JD Fab LCA kit will readily fit up. There is some, albeit very little overlap of the adjustment cam slots. So if you had your lower cams all the way out after the install, the LCA's would be all the way in. For me, I ended up with about -2 to -3 degrees neg camber, as I did not narrow the LCA subframe. I added hiems to my UCA's and got my camber back.

If we can confirm the frame is in fact 1” narrower I could easily build a cross bar to accommodate it

That's interesting that the FJ frame is 1" narrower, since the FJ and Taco use the same front diff and the ADD tube can be swapped for a twin stick conversion on the 4wd.

I think the difference is in the LCA brackets and not so much the frame. I will say that I had to cut in half the skid mounting ear on the front closest to the diff.

Always wondered what the point is of those holes? Drain water? There wouldn’t be ingress if not for the holes... or are they there for LCA skid plates??

That’s pretty cool. Did you machine those aluminum inserts one off or are they available off the shelf somewhere?
Does that still work with stock alignment cambolts or only your subframe kit?

We machined them as one-offs and the misalignments we made were for our LCA kit but could easily be made for OE cam bolts

Could probably do pretty well with uniballs conversion for stock lowers

Nice! I may go that route soon. I’m waiting to buy your LCA pivot kit (and some other goodies) until I’ll have time to actually install it. Maybe this summer when the surf sucks and I’m back in WA. Has anyone without long travel used your steering slide rack? I’d imagine it could be extended later on for LT pretty easily? That and the LCA kit are high on my list but LT not yet.

The slide rack and LT kit are completely independent of one another. The only thing that changes is the tie rod length

For how quick you guys came up with all these products they are incredibly well thought out and well built. When I get the funds together you'll definitely get my business. The only problem is that you're making so many awesome things that my wallet can't keep up with your progress. Keep up the good work.

As someone who owns a set, RCVs are a complete and utter waste of money.

So where does the difference in width get made up? According to RCV the half shaft is the same, and the spindle assembly is the same. LCA? Or is there just an inch of tolerance in that tulip joint.

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
I thought this was a JD product thread? Take the RCV bitching and groveling over to the LT BS thread.

So the FJ and Tacoma axles are not the same. Tacoma has 29 spline outer joints and the FJ has 30 spline outers. As far as length and plunge, that is something I don’t know about yet. Not sure what the other differences are.

edit: the tulip cups are different too.

Axle shaft or outer CV? They use the same hub, and RCV lists only one PN for FJ and 2nd/3rd gen taco.

I'm interested because knowing who can share spare front axles would make our big wheeling trips alot easier.

So the stub axles (inner and outer) have the same splines, so the front diff and wheel bearings are all interchangeable. When it comes down to the actual axles, the tulip cups, the axles, and the outer joints ARE all different. So that would explain why you can plug and play one front axle for another, but the components of the stock axles are different.

So if you have an FJ or 4Runner and you want to go with the 934cvs and 300m axles from JD with the 29 spline Tacoma outer, you will absolutely need to use an outer joint from a Tacoma.
