Ok, I need some help on what to spend my money on. I have now read this thread front to back twice. Every time I read it, I like what I hear more and more. What I need is to find which setup is right for me. I was originally set on the LCA pivots and call it a day. I am currently on 33" tires but will be jumping up to 35" when these wear out. I do not plan on ever going any bigger than that. When I started pricing the kit out I realized I had to rethink the plan. Give or take a couple dollars the difference between the pivots with UCA and LT kit is $1500. Now what will bring those prices even closer is I will have to have someone weld the kit on as well as get either my current skids modified or have a new set fabbed. My main goal is to fit 35" comfortably, which the LT will also move the tires forward giving more room for clearance. Straight up my truck is my daily driver, so I would say I fall into the "Weekend Warrior" category. The off-roading I do is forest service roads mixed with slow and technical trails. I should also add that my truck is heavy, full bumper with winch and full skids. So if you were in my position and wanted to spend money, what would it be on?

The LCA pivots hands down. Even with the LT you'll need the UCA double sheer to be welded on and then you are still dealing with one good lick and knocking the alignment off and buying one of those brace for the cam tabs from MC or TC to help with that and having someone burn that in. Those are kinda still somewhat of a band-aid to the issue. There is now a front skid available for the pivots as well so you won't need to do anything to yours you can sell your current front one to make up some cost there.

Totally deserve the flamethrower treatment for lack of dirt time. Have 2k miles on the new suspension.

It's a 50mi/day commuter truck. I'm "on call" caring for a family member 24/7 with daily visits. I also started desk job in December (was self-employed WFH) that's 7am-6pm which doesn't leave much time for anything let alone dirt therapy. It's way overdue.

Rear diff is worn in, gotta start on the front diff now. Truck should be back down for the gas tank, fenders and other goodies here soon. Stay tuned. You'll get whoop-bro video clips soon enough.

 

All the parts are right at $4k... add about another $2k for me to weld a truss and put everything together.

I've had the Detroit TruTrac for about 3 years on mt TRD Sport and haven't really had any issues. My wife doesn't notice it when she drives the truck in the snow and she's not that observant driver when it comes to vehicle dynamics. I have noticed it locks up if throttling in on turns, but only when I'm giving it a decent punch or gravel on the road. I haven't had any issue in the rain, in the snow it's hard to say because it's far easier to spin the tires regardless. Off-Road it did pretty well. Had a couple times it didn't lock right away, really low speed crawling and just tap the brakes while on the throttle and it locks right up. I would have loved a to get an air or e-locker but when I found a deal on a TruTrac for $350, I couldn't justify almost $1000 more to get an air or e-locker. My build is very slow and incremental. Trying to save to build a house makes the car mods be put on the back burner. My saving grace is if something breaks I can justify (to myself and my wife) to upgrade whatever part it is that needs replacing. lol I know it sounds like I'm a cheap ass, but I really just like getting good deals on quality parts. Like my set of 5 FNWheels I got for $200!!!

 

Detroit truths is not a locker its a limited slip and operates completely differently than a mechanical locker.

 

....but is the strongest and most versatile limited slip. No clutches to wear out, solenoids/seals/etc. to fail, or buttons to select. Just strong, simple, quiet operation to gain traction.
