Like a weld on tube to the exterior? Same concept of a gold valve on a Fox bypass?

Do you really think you will need to notch the frame for up travel? That is usually kept for linked trucks with upper shock mounts up above the bed rails. I know you’re doing your own geometry and kit design, but none of the spring under long travel kits on the market have you do this. My dmz kit with 16” shocks the leafs are just a little negative at full bump just before the axle hits the frame. Just don’t see how it would be utilized with a 12” shock not going through the bed. Shock will bottom out long before the axle comes close to the frame.

As for static up/down travel I have always heard you want 60/40 at ride height. At least for go fast applications. The wheel needs to be able to have uptravel when you hit that hard bump that came out of nowhere. Crawlers I’ve heard 50/50 or the opposite at 40/60 up/down travel as ideal numbers.

This has worked well for me so far. 4ish" up travel on a 12" shock. Allows for plenty of droop.

Yeah crawlers and rock bouncers are more droop than bump. Some are even less than 40% bump. I've seen some crawlers that are really low slung with like 3-4" of up on 14" shocks. The high speed stuff needs more up due to the jumping and stuff. Just don't want so little droop that the wheel can't droop enough into dips and holes while running down a trail.

Hence why I found some Chevy 63s with a 6.75" arch compared to the rest with 5.25" of arch. So I have a good amount of bump and droop, more than my 14" shocks can cycle.

The total travel is still the same it’s just where the truck sits in the travel that drastically changes the ride of the truck

I can agree. But also with where suspension pickup points are located and designed.

Because in that orientation they have a tendency to back off and fall out over time

What he said and if the nut comes off in the other orientation the bolt will still stay in place so it doesn't fall off

+1. had a buddy's nut on the UCA bolt come off and luckily it was oriented the other way. bolt backed off on a fireroad and the cab side of the UCA fell lose. Luckily I caught it right after it happened and he didn't drive very far. Had it been the other way, the bolt could have fell all the way off and did more damage if not discovered in time.

@literallynothing and @ovrlndkull - have you seen or heard of this happening? "tendancy" for nut to fall off, as in you know of it, or are you talking pure theory? I think there has been millions of people replace UCA and not put the bolt back in the ridiculous way the factory does it. And I believe that with any proper fit, the nut/washer should be tightening against a sleeve that doesn't rotate. And even if the bushing were to get grip on the nut/washer, the control arm articulates in both directions, who is to say that it wouldn't happen with the other OEM orientation? And anyone seen a bolt work its way out? I would have thought the side loading of the UCA would prevent the bolt working its way out.

But perhaps I am missing something, and this is a common thing that I've missed.

OK then, I stand corrected. Is this common, or is this a corner case of not enough torque / torque check after a few miles?

not really sure. I know it was torqued when the aftermarket UCA was first installed but not sure if it was ever loosened / re-torqued after (it had been less than 6k miles since the install). On my truck, I check torque every so often but I also drew a line with a paint pen so I can visually spot it quicker if it does come loose.

Not horribly common but has happened. My question to you is why tempt fate. Why not just do things the right way.

I hope it's not a common occurrence, but even if it's theory based, why risk it? You can torque everything occasionally and take the chance, likely with success, but what happens if you're apart of the small number that it happens to?
