How is the Inverted Shackle exposed? You're going to smack the leafs before you ever hit the shackle. It all comes down to whoever is behind the wheel if we are being honest. You have a greater chance of caving your driveshaft in than getting hung up by a leaf pack that is mounted outboard and close to the tire.

We obviously have different experiences on the matter and different view points. Which is fine as I build my truck for what I use it for and you build yours for your use.

Don't you live in the mid-west?

Sure do. And ground clearance is a huge deal to me. But with that said, I'm confident the SUA will do just fine. My one and only concern with it is deep snow

I'm happy that you're confident in your choice of setup. Do you even have rocks out there? :boink::anonymous:

Uh, its all rock here. I live in the UP of Michigan. We have some pretty gnarly terrain.

On top of that, we get upwards of 300" of snow every winter.

Also, I've never had problems with the shackles hanging low. If anything, its there and it has some give to either compress the leaf if you set the truck on the leaf/shackle, unlike the Tacoma hangers which are solidly there lol.

I am so curious on how a well articulated SUA would do out here in our unbelievably rocky AZ southwest terrain. For my cheap and relatively simple rear setup - it does just fine for what I need it to do and I think personally, for my “geolocation” SUA would probably get me hung up quite a bit, it’s a good chunk of material hanging below the axle & I do personally think that for my uses & terrain, SUA would rob me of more clearance than worth gaining from the articulation or bump travel. But there’s probably a good chance it’s a great option for many others. I also can’t say I’ve seen any local southwest wheelers with SUA so maybe others in my area might agree with me

Can’t wait. I’ll have my winch bumper / frame all tucked up by then and maybe even my beadlocks mounted up. Lmk! All this rain has to be beautifying all of our best local trails. I can’t wait to see them

My ubolts are scared from crawling so I can only imagine what having 3"+ under the axle would do.
My 63s are set up similarly to the JD shackle and I've dropped onto them no issues. I wouldn't fret it.

Looks tiiiiiiight, I’m in - just need a good amount of heads up so I can plan/arrange to make it up there. That trail looks awesome from those few pics

Not that it was an open invite or anything but I'd be down to drive out and play with enough of a heads up. What trail is it?

Yes, I agree with you. Again, I could be completely wrong buy my wheeling and concerns align with yours.

That’s all that matters - is that we don’t unanimously agree with one recommendation. Because our terrain & wheeling style differ GREATLY even among the several very like minded people in this specific thread. Everyone seems to do what works great for them, rather than blindly following a recommendation.

The one I posted is Dead Doe wash. It’s in flagstaff, and a short little trail. But it’s the only “rock” trail nearby. Otherwise the ones @singletrack_ftw posted are off table Mesa a little north of Phoenix. A lot more trails in that area and some really tough ones. Buggy territory

Only wheeling I've done in the area is Crown King from the back side. Was a great trip but nothing to brag about.

Everyone build their truck to wants and needs.
Lets plan a wheeling comp? With a points system, then can decide who's whats whats is on the up and up?
Trails in CO, then Moab then Sand Hollow?
CO trails can mimic some east coast; not quite Windrock or Black Mt. But more along like Potts trail.
    Moab slick rock.
Sand Hollow has go fast stuff with harder than Moab slick rock trails?

    Deal?

Ummmm considering I've been trying to make that trip happen I'm definitely down! Only thing close to SE wheeling is the PNW. No one has the slick wet clay that we can get especially if you do any AL.
