Oh and for anyone doubting the strength of the slide rack, spindle gussets and other steering upgrades from @81Trekker and jd fab. Not the most epic pic, but, 37’s, locked front diff, full steering lock, 12psi, and lots of weight bias on the front end. Drove home as straight and true as before the trail.

    762C46FD-66EE-4438-A648-EDC6B961B7F9.jpg

But this 87 point turn at the end of the trail is one of the spots that reallly made me want the Howe pump kit. Could have done it in 53 points with some more power behind the steering

@81Trekker what would be involved with adding hydro assist to the slide rack?

It would be a science project, it definitely can be done but trying to explain it over a forum isn’t gonna happen and unless you have the proper tooling it’s not gonna happen either

What would be even cooler is a howe rack, but I have a feeling we don't have nearly enough room to work with for that.

Correct, you can’t get the steering shaft to work with one, we already tried

I’m guessing if the Howe pump paired with the slide rack or tundra rack isn’t enough for you then full hydro should be a consideration

Lol, I'm so undecided on steering stuff right now and I hate it. I love what I have, I'm just not sure its going to work out long term for me. I've already had to do seals in the rack, which in all honesty is on me because I swamped the front end. But at the same time, if I don't swamp the truck again I should be ok, right? Maybe?

wants/needs. full hydro is a lot of work on an IFS Tacoma. The engine bay is full. If you had a solid axle then no-brainer doing an assist or full hydro.

I don't necessarily think full hydro is that big of a job. However, it is absolutely horrendous to street drive with it in my honest opinion.

I travel a ton on the street to hunting areas. I need it to do both, well. The slide rack is awesome, I’ve been slamming shit all summer and aside from my seal issue I’ve had zero problems. But with that said, I encounter mud often. So I’m nervous about the possibility of it leaving me stranded.

It would honestly be a non issue if I could figure out how to boot the rack. But I’ve brainstormed many different ideas and none of them seem like they will work.
