    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
Yeah, mud sucks. Keep the rack full of WD40 and prayers to the seal gods that the silt won't find a way through.

wouldn’t just an extra external wiper type seal stop the rod from pulling in junk past the main seal ?

The issue is the teeth on the drivers side of the rack that extend past the seal, pulling stuff in.

so you can’t just clamp a generic boot over the rack body and let the other end ride the shaft w/o a clamp ? that seems like it would keep a lot of stuff out ?

No because the drivers side has teeth on the bar. So its only about 2/3 sealed because of it. Would 100% need boots to stop my issue.

You have to cut the end of the rack off where a boot would attach so yeah....

There are quite a few that did full hydro with IFS biggest issue they hit was positioning for bump steer.

Assist with stock rack and the slide rack is gonna be a packaging thing.

The assist with a larger rack like the tundra would be better for packaging just figure out what length throw you need, get a pass through orbital valve, and make brackets like the slide rack to attach to the rack. Of course mounts for the ram. Use a 1.5" assist ram.

    Too many to remember
You could build a bracket that attaches to the input shaft bolts that you can clamp a large boot to

    two ideas -

    1. notch the boot and rtv that bitch onto the rack

    2. machine a 1/4” wide washer that slides over the ram, has a wiper on the ID and a surface to clamp a boot to on the OD, could easily add a mounting tab for hardware

That was a thought, but how do I go about attaching it near the clevis where it won’t destroy the boot going to lock?

What do you mean by "pass through orbital"?
Every hydro assist setup ive seen relies on a steering box and is drilled and tapped to send fluid to the ram. I would imagine someone could use the existing fluid control valve on the stock rack and they would just need to figure out how to route the lines and mount a ram.

The lines already exist on a rack for your left/right control. It would just take figuring out how to tap off of them I would imagine.

why does it need to attach near the clevis ? you don’t really need to boot the entire length but if you wanted too you could do the same sleeve / washer idea i mentioned, your boot does not have to be tight to the shaft or even 100 sealed to keep a ton of stuff out of there

No matter what the clevis nearly bottoms on the rack. So the boot would be pinched every single time you went to lock.

why couldn’t you use a large boot that went to the OD of the rack and the OD of the clevis ?

The slide rack clevis is huge.

What happens if the end of the rack doesn't get cut off? Steering is limited a bit but you can keep the boot?

That would be a worthwhile trade off for me

Still going to pinch the boot. I just don't see a way around it but maybe I'm not approaching it properly. The slide rack would 100% be the best thing out there for a steering upgrade with boots. 90% of people will likely never swamp their truck and have the issue I am. But, I end up in mud. Sometimes its much deeper than expected.
