All clear there. It's an odd sound. Only happens slow speed over pot holes or small dropouts on the passenger side...I'm leaning towards a body panel shifting or something.

It sounds almost identical to when you first put your tire on the studs and it clanks against the rotor...if that makes any sense. That solid aluminum hitting solid steel clunk/knock.

Checked your core support bushings? They can make some crazy noise. Especially if your fender is whacking a steel bumper

Clunked before and after changing those, but not ruling out some sort of frame/body contact. Cab is far enough away from the bumper. I haven't see any hit or rub marks. It's probably something really dumb and unimportant haha

Also, sorry to throw my question in right after yours. I didn't mean for yours to be skipped over. Hate when that happens.

Of the 3 other tacomas that I know of that ditched their inner fenders completely for an engine cage, none of them moved the fuse box, me included. To me it just seemed like way too much hassle and like a custom harness would be easier. But if you want to cut and extend 60 wires to move yours then go for it

Harness has been a strong consideration. But I would like things to be a little more "done" before I start that fun. Its not a cheap endeavor to build a truly nice harness, so I don't necessarily want to build one only to hack it apart. If only this 4.0 would give up the ghost.....

On my truck I have a similar noise on the driver side. I’ve always chalked it up as the brake pads shifting in the calipers. I’ve replicated it several times.

Another tinny popping sound I also got from the cab mounts when I went poly.

A custom harness for the 4.0 would be the biggest nightmare ever as they are very, very finicky. The best advice I can give is don’t start messing with the wiring or you will regret it. This is spoken from my personal experience as well as a master Toyota tech that build standalone harness.

    Yes
I had a mysto " clunk " and discovered that it was my drivers side inner CV. The PTFE liner in the ECGS bushing was worn out allowing too much slop, the bushings are a wear item and need to be replaced when they wear out.

Oh there is no doubt about that. I have zero intentions of building a harness until the 4.0 pops and I put an LSA in...

Agreed. But mine came along as soon as i put poly bushings on and they settled. It also didn't go away when I put an ARB in and they get rid of the factory bearing also and go to a bushing of sorts

Hmm now I want to check mine. I was told it was in there for life. 100k+ miles on mine. I wonder if that’s what my driver side noise is that I thought was caliper/pad slap.

Interesting. I’ve had it before with the ECGS bushing and now with the ARB locker so it may not be that. It seems to do it the worse on droop, low speed. Gotta be something dumb. It gets old hearing it, but nothing has shit itself completely to think it’s a major issue, just a nuisance.

Nah it’s happened on 5100s, Kings and now Fox. I might check the engine mounts, but I think I’d be getting some other feedback/virbrations if one was bad.
