I can't leave anything well enough alone
Your perspective is that they are worth it to you at 2K. Which is fine! Anything less than that is even better for you. But 2K is probably just too much for me, right now anyway... And I know for a fact based on PMs already today that there are more people who think the same. I want to know how much I'm spending before I spend it. Do you often buy things that you don't know how much they cost? Especially if they are above what you think you are comfortable spending? My budget isn't infinite, and there are other things on the project list as well. I'm just trying to figure out where this one fits. It isn't like we are talking about some tiny cheap parts. The bottom line is if the group buy pricing is announced, then people can decide for themselves if it is worth it without having to be so desperate and chomping at the bit to get them that they would be happy to spend the full retail price to do so.

Put yourself in the other shoes. What if the retail price was double what it is, so say 4K. but there is a group buy... if it came down close enough to your tolerance, you might splurge and take advantage of something you wouldn't have otherwise done. THAT is the purpose of a group buy, to get more buyers.

And I disagree with you assertion that group buys work this way. I have participated in many, where there may be a list before announcement, fine, but the price is disclosed prior to the list being frozen every time I've participated, and at the bare minimum there is a goal of x numbers of people to commit for a Y discount... Signing up for something that isn't known... with the wife comments? Sheesh.

I am ready to commit or not commit! I just want to know what price I am committing to and I don't feel like that is unreasonable. Even if the discount price is kept in PM, it should be available prior to there being a request to commit no matter what the price is.

Hey man so there are typically quite a few GBs set up the way JD does them. They are typically done by companies like JD who are not reliant on never ending sales or GBs to get actually sales revenue. I've ran multiple GBs some with disclosed price some without. Per my experience the ones with the disclosed price you get a ton more tire kickers going in then dropping out last minute and then the company has to make the decision to either not follow through or please the almost full GB short one jackass that pulled out. The ones where pricing and what not isn't disclosed typically gets the more serious customers that will buy at the full msrp they just want a discount. It's shopping for your consumers so to speak. There are those that just want everything dirt cheap on sale or at buddy price those are the ones that this type group buy tends to weed out. As far as talking with the wifey I totally get that and think that is actually really the best way to be in a marriage. To explain to her you could say here is what it's MSRP is 1999.99 + 149.99 for the battery box. I know I'll be getting the 149.99 for free and it'll be a decent savings on top of that as well. I get budgeting for things I've been tucking away my pennies for a new rear for months now.

how much of a discount do you need to know about... "less than 2 grand" isn't justifiable??

Others choose to run their GB differently. Dealer's choice... don't like it, don't play.

I came up with the same math and made it happen. Ran 0000 pos and neg to avoid grounding anomalies I didn’t want to chase later.

Sheathed it all in 0.83” duraflex (pain in the ass) and used FIW1.00RD fire flex heat wrap near the headers.

Or I could just scrap the whole group buy and sell them all at retail. I’m doing this as a courtesy to TW members not because we need the business.

Tried using the search and couldn't find it, but are these steel or aluminum? Weight? Idk that I'll be in the gb but def interested. Also wondering in the back of my mind how this will effect the crush zone in a crash.

Dude lots of GB's are run this way and it's no big deal but I'm perplexed by your level of displeasure with this ? are you under the misconception that you are going to blindly provide you credit card # when you sign up for the group buy and not know how much the price is before purchasing ?

Steel and yes because the whole point is not to crumple... that's the problem.

So they are thicker, stronger, and heavier than the stock spot welded and seam sealed flimsy cracking stock stuff. Sorry it's not a perfect answer. I don't think JD spent the millions it takes to do crash tests (see AEV ZR2 bison) to see the effects it has on the crumple zone. Also this is like adding a big front winch bumper skids, etc. unless it's all been tested none of it is really known of how they'll react in crash tests. Sometimes you gotta add "good" weight to a build to fix some weaknesses without going full send race truck tube chassis. This is the happy medium.

The courtesy would be people giving you money for your product. As a professional courtesy, you might want to reevaluate your outlook. It’s easy to not be hungry when you’re full from the feast, but there will be lean times, too. Just part of it. Stay humble.
