The thing you’re missing is big companies are ordering generic shocks in bulk, when it comes to custom tube layouts, valving, hose length, fittings and colors you’re going to wait no matter the size of your order. I’d be willing to bet that we have had an account with King longer than any company on the forum and have an excellent working relationship. That being said we can get generic stuff much quicker than all the custom stuff we sell.

I agree with you, and you probably get this already, but a manufacturer like king isn't really focused on one-off sales, as evidenced by their lack of any online store at all. If they annoy a customer with a one-off order, it's no big deal, but if they annoy a customer that spend hundreds of thousands a year, that's going to make a big impact on their business.

I don't think king actually does that a lot though. I'm pretty sure they just build in the order they are received. But one big business order of 100 shocks that was placed just before your order of 2 pushes yours back quite a lot.

In my business, we have been waiting around 10 months for most of our king orders as well, but we can bring the lead time down for customers just because we are ordering ahead of time. So if you bought kings from us now, they would be arriving in 5 months or so if they were already ordered. It's tricky though because we have to try and predict what's going to be sold. So right now we are completely out of Tacoma kings, but we have like 5 sets of 4runner kings sitting on the shelf wasting space and money. Can never win!

yea i realize that, custom is custom. Id rather (me personally) buy a generic shock and take it to my local valving shop and have them tune it. Then wait half a year to a year for my shocks. As far as colors and all that i could care less as long as my shock does its job haha. But i get why ppl wait. I just wouldn't do it. That being said my custom shocks from radflo only took like a month to come in when i got them and they were telling me 2 just a couple of weeks ago when i inquired about some rears. Guess it really just depends on manufacturer and demand they are getting. Im glad raflo isn't as well known as some of the others by a super large crowd. Id run their shocks until i die.

I kept these to frame when we started remodeling. Been on the wall forever. I had to cut the wall around one of them haha. It’s always a good reminder of which end is up. Except for the train one. It’s now my place to bitch because I own it

Its still crazy to me, I've seen a few people that ordered custom layout bypasses and got them in 3 months. There seems to be no rhyme or reason behind it. Then I've seen some that ordered 8+ months ago with nothing to show for it yet.

I bet that king is running stuff in batches. The custom layout probably matched another order and they were built at the same time saving the second order from a long wait.

It also has to do with what parts are missing from their suppliers. I know there was a time where they couldn't get coils, so we got all of our smoothbody shocks in a big shipment, and then when they finally got coils in they sent all of our coilovers a couple months later.

All the long travel made for a great firewood truck! I love my front and rear, thanks @81Trekker . Still has a little up travel as well but the springs are getting some gnarly negative arch.

    Yes
before you build any support brackets you need to beef up the bed side first. if you just add brackets to the bedsides as is they will crack. you can follow what i did in my build thread, fill / level the underside of the bed rails first. depending on what brand of glass you use there can be some significant uneven shape to that surface. so fill / level first and then laminate either wood or some 1/4” fiberglass frp board to the bottom of the bed rails and then build your brackets to support that surface.

Yeah I wasn't planning on just bolting to the side of the composite bed. Haven't fully thought through it all yet. I also thought I might just make a new bed rack that mounts to the bed bolts instead. Thanks for the tips though! I have advanced glass

Starting to look like a bumper. Nice contrast of shoddy craftsmanship and JD LT if you look too closely, but it’s fun to pretend to know what I’m doing.
