I just taped everything up and tucked it away. You will have lights on, but that can be resolved. Then I drilled and tapped my wheel speed ports and threaded in pipe plugs to completely eliminate the BS.

Perfect, lights don't bother me, they'll just match the rest of them.

Have you tackled the boot conundrum on the slide rack? Living in BC so much salt and crap on the roads makes me wonder how the rack will hold up to dirt ingress.

How do exposed shock shafts hold up. I see rack boots about the same as having shock boots. Perhaps a little moto foam would fit.

Considering there’s bearings that can get dirt pulled directly into them on the drivers side that’s not a fair comparison at all. I’ve discussed the issues before, if you would like to see the discussion go back a good bit. It is an issue that needs addressing.

Yes, because one single occasion in the mud is what caused all of this. Pull your head out of your ass man. I’ve logged 15k dirt miles on the slide rack in the last year. How many have you? I’m simply trying to make a good solution work even better. Your day will come for the same issues as well. But bringing up solid points is how a product gets improved, no?

As I’ve stated many times over, the slide rack is awesome. I’m not knocking it, I’m not knocking JD. But ANYBODY that buys the slide rack really should know about this issue. Pre runner type builds don’t just belong in the desert, and it shocks me to know that’s what you seem to believe.

When I worked on AV8Bs in the Marine Corps. On the hydraulic actuators there were fiber reinforced silicone sleeves that would stretch fit and be able to bend every which way. Just held on via hose clamps.
    Would something like that work?

That’s pretty much the idea. It’s just a matter of figuring out the attachment at the rack and finding a way to not pinch the boot in half at full lock.

Could also add a collar to the slide (limits steering angles) and would be able to mount a boot there and notch the gusset on the carrier tube for the other end of the boot. Tons of ways to address it, nothing has been attempted that I've seen, only keyboard pecking and whining.

I have a rack sitting on my kitchen table as we speak. It’s not whining. It’s “hey, there’s an issue here. Lets find a way to correct it”. That’s what guys who like to build stuff do. Collectively find a way to perfect things. Unless I’m missing something here?

I tear my truck down every spring to rebuild shocks and go through the suspension. It would be nice if I could go that duration on everything so I can spend that year having fun and not worrying about replacing seals in the rack halfway through the year. Harry had obviously spent a significant amount of time figuring out ways to increase the life of parts in the long travel kits, which is awesome. It’s also the exact reason they sold me on their kits. Make this rack perfect and you’re going to have a front end you don’t have to even think about.

I have not looked at how the Tacoma's rack is configured but you are saying that bearings sit outside of the seals? The lack of boots has been a concern of mine as well. I was just thinking if the shocks hold up without boots why would the rack not?

The teeth on the rack slide past the seal and pull grit inside, whereas a shock shaft can be wiped clean as it cycles.
