I wonder though, is there any reason not to swap the other needle bearing for an ecgs bearing since they're the same part?

I’m wondering if there isn’t a needle bearing in the ADD tube. This surface is 100% machined with reason. The breakdown I posted may not have shown the bearing if it’s part of the tube. Could also be the reason you had issue coming out of 4wd if it worked it’s way down and blocked the slider or fork.

There's one on the inside of the passenger side of the diff. @EatSleepTacos posted an exploded diagram of the front diff and it shows it.

I posted the arb blown up which shows two identical bushings. Doesn’t confirm a passenger side needle bearing but a good assumption there is one

Look back. I posted an actual Toyota diagram that does confirm 2 needle bearings.

I know, I saw that one too. I see what you're saying now about one IN the ADD tube and that part that you have circled on the shaft. That appears to ride on a bearing (41304L; 4143335010), there's no needle bearing in the tube itself. At least not what I'm seeing

The bearing presses on the far left surface, not the inner one. It’s highly likely the tube just comes with the bearing and that’s why it’s not shown. We see that lots on stuff like this.

Basically what I’m saying is the ball bearing presses on the surface circled in red. But the surface circled in black is machined for a reason. My assumption is that’s where another needle bearing sits and it’s just part of the tube. Could even be the reason you see some of these tubes grenade in that area.

Then what is the black circled area machined for?

I was gonna say the add shaft only rides on a ball bearing on the outside and the spider gear in the inside, but that is the add delete shaft from the fj. Can’t remember on the taco shaft.

FJ shaft also rides on the needle bearing in the ring gear carrier. I’d like to see some pictures showing inside the ADD tube because I’m convinced they didn’t machine the surface for no reason.

I don't remember but there is no pre-installed bearing there. But the thread I linked yesterday has the full breakdown and build of those parts you pictured.

Take a picture for my sanity. Please lol. I can’t wrap my head around them adding an extra step for no reason.

Already did. No pictures show inside the tube. Either way @RonRon23 had needle bearings come from somewhere. You don’t completely gut a housing and miss something like that unless you’re highly incompetent. I also know enough that manufactures don’t just machine a surface with zero reason. But, we’re going back and forth for nothing until someone posts some pictures showing that there’s nothing there.

Or maybe that shaft is used on several platforms and that surface is used on a different platform. I have a feeling that the shop messed up the inner bearing and then fixed it and said there was nothing wrong, seen that more times than shops telling the truth especially when they're at fault.
