I wonder if the shop didn’t use the clip nuts and just put regular nuts on the top side, they captive ones should have minimal if any spin before they back out the bolt.

Also speaking of ford 9” rear ends, what’s anybody running for oil? Found Currie said to use a standard gl-6 85-140. Curious what anyone else runs.

Yep. Got his old set up the front diamond he still has. The new stuff is very well done the shop that redid everything really did a good job. There are so many little things in his new build that are so much cleaner and nicer.

I'll probably run what ECGS recc which is lucas brand same stuff though nothing special. Plus I have a case of it. Not sure it really matters, I bet if you look at all the different gear manufacturers and differential manufacturers they'd recc something different or similar just different brands.

Rocks are dumb. When does hydro assist for the slide rack come out? Or full hydro?

side note this didn’t have anything to do with the jd parts failing

After driving a taco with full hydro, locked on 37s, I’m convinced that’s the only solution. Would love a kit to make things easier though haha

I’m pretty sure this is what I’m gonna do. Fix this setup to get me by until o can save for full hydro and just be done

For what you do with the truck Id put a steering box on it... the box with mechanical linkage will allow you to actually get some feed back.

Pretty sure that’s what happened. Def no captive nuts. the corner bolts work regular nuts are a bitch to get to. I was like there’s no way it was designed to be this hard to remove. Not the end of the world. Hopefully the captive nuts are hiding in my box of take offs

Don't the Baja and ultra 4 guys run swingset steering or some sort of hydraulic over mechanical for that reason? I know for how we wheel and what we do as long as you don't drive full hydro on the street it's the best route.
I'm going to be attempting to run assist but I'm still a ways from actually putting all the pieces together and am unsure if it'll actually work.

We run hydro racks on all of our race trucks and luxury prerunners but they are all mechanically driven with a steering shaft. I’d love to put one on a Tacoma but the steering shaft needs to go to the center of the rack and the motor is in the way. You will never see an ultra4 or TT with a full hydro system because they are dangerous at high speeds

The strength of the slide rack is awesome and the Howe pump at above 0.5mph is great, but this trip I have never been more frustrated with a specific performance aspect of the truck. Given the size of the truck and knowing I was going to drag sliders or skids, the 37’s and front locker felt like cheating. But not being able to turn the wheel at all when I needed to was frustrating when everything else was working soooo good. Still an amazing trip.

That said, open to any advise on options as I haven’t had a chance to do any research. Tired and probably a few days before I start looking into anything. When you say steering box, you mean swing set? Right now all I can think of for ifs and steering box is swing set?

Yes, steering box and ram that drives a swing set or slide rack

Bolt backed out of the rack but was captured by the heim on the tie rod. Last few threads stripped out and bent the clevis between the rack and slide rack. Chopped off a few threads to clean up the bolt and tightened things as best as we could without damaging good parts to get off the trail

Ok. Well we will talk this week. Gonna need to replace the clevis and hardware for now while I figure out a better end goal. Figure that will be worth while since my buddy that bought a 4800 car launched it the wrong way off a dune 15’ to flat rocks. He has some work to do on the chassis as well as rebuilding the motor because he broke the block when all the engine mounts sheared off.
