Glad they were harnessed and had helmets for sure. His dad was riding along and he’s late 60’s. Lucky the two of them were just a little sore the next few days

I was thinking. Get a cheap CV axle from the parts store. Cut off the axle and just have spare inner/outer in case of a axle breakage. But, with the 934, I kinda doubt it.
    Thoughts?

I have 934s and I carry just the gutted stubs from some old napas to plug the holes on the off chance one breaks. I know the inner can be unbolted, but why bother

I've already got one like that for that reason and will keep it just in case.

Very well, then I'll get a el cheapo axle and cut it, clean it. Carry the stubs.

If you have 934’s you can unbolt the CV in under 1 minute. If you broke an axle you’re gonna have to unbolt the CV anyways to replace the axle so might as well just do it on the trail and avoid carrying a spare, your trucks are heavy enough! With all of that said you are not gonna break a 300m axle so my above comment is basically worthless :)

Why does the CV have to be unbolted to be removed? You’re talking about the Allen bolts right?

Correct, the 934 is bolted to the inner stub shaft. If you pull the 6 Allen bolts the entire CV comes off and you are left with the 934 stub shaft in the diff. It’s probably easier to unbolt the CV then to remove the stub shaft. My point is why carry a spare stub shaft to use as a plug when the 934 stub shaft already accomplishes that

Less troublesome and easier than dropping skids and fighting knocking the inner out. Plus it'll leave the stub in. You don't have to but it's quicker.

That makes sense. Would you be left with a bunch of grease slinging around? I honestly have no idea what they look like broken down haha. Anyone running them with 40’s that you know of?

The grease is packed into the CV and boot, the 934 flange face is essential flat so there will be a small amount of grease that can be wiped off with a couple napkins.

There are quite a few class one and Dakar trucks running 934’s with 300m axles so you should be ok doing it on a Tacoma especially since you are down about 600HP :)

Honestly the Tacoma diff doesn’t stand a chance with 40’s unless maybe you have the worlds slowest taco... insert eye roll here

Yes you're essentially opening them up and you'll see the balls and cage, there will be grease you can wipe it up it won't be too bad.

I'm thinking more of the outer. If that breaks. Since its kinda needed to hold the wheel on.

The wheel is held on by the unit bearing, not the birfield. If you remove the axle it’s no different than a 2wd Tacoma.

That’s not accurate, the outer stub holds the wheel bearing together. Had a buddy not know this, drove without a cv after breaking one and his wheel almost fell off shortly after.

I understand this and I guess it got lost in translation, my point was you don’t need the birfield to be intact to drive the truck. You can explode the birfield and as long as the stub is bolted in to retain the bearings you can drive home.
