IMO the bushings are likely going to wipe out the gears even faster since there’s nothing to really absorb much shock anymore but the gears themselves. IMO figuring out assist with the factory rack would have a decent chance of making things last. But at the end of the day it’s still a factory rack basically meant to handle a car tire.

I do question the possibility of making the tundra rack jive with the slide rack though. It would at minimum be an affordable option in comparison to a box.

Is it ground hogs day? It feels like once a month we go round and round about steering racks.

For the cost of a modified Tundra rack you could purchase a Saginaw box and Ram from Howe. You already have the TC pump, resi, cooler and half of the plumbing done.

The bottom line is ALL of these Toyota rack solutions flat out suck (slide rack, tundra rack, LC200) and will never compare to a box and a ram.

So sell the Tacoma and buy a full size Ram. Got it.

But yeah every time I drive the truck I hate the steering more and more. Doing this one last bandaid to keep t going while looking into doing a box and ram.

For the average user the solutions and products you guys put out are amazing and highly recommended. I’m just special and think it’s a good idea to drive my truck like it’s a 4400 car

Then spend countless hours trying to get geometry proper. If it were so simple to just toss a box at it, why isn’t there anything available from anybody aside from the quixotic setup (which I have mixed feelings on). Idk about you, but my time is worth something, personally. You guys that build this kind of stuff on the regular probably wouldn’t struggle getting it right like the rest of us. But with space constraints and everything else, I can’t really see it being an “easy” or “cheap” endeavor.

Though it is a very large gap in the market, that would likely sell very well if figured out.

My curiosity is knocking. How much does a steering box and ram setup cost? Is it adaptable for off road and street use?

Realistically it would probably be between 3-5k. Quixotic had one up a while back that was like 3500 I think, but I had some mixed feelings on the setup. And done right it would go down the street better than what we have now. Boxes are tough. Available in different ratios etc. many many perks to a box over a rack. But our space constraints limit possibilities big time.
