My goal with the truck was to have a GFC mounted to the bed and I figured with the weight of that I'd be better off with SOA as it should carry the weight better. I do like the idea of being able to ditch the boat anchor I have now, as nice as the hammer hangers are. Cost does play into it as well. I already have deaver springs, although I'm sure I could recoup some of the cost from selling them. It was kind of my intention to have the shock towers mounted with the 14" shocks, and then possibly eventually going SUA since I'd already have that much done. I really like the new frame braces and the fact the new shock towers bolt straight to them.

If the GFC is going to be on full time, Deaver can make you a custom pack to handle that weight. Cost is always going to be a thing, but at the end of the day a baller mid travel setup is going to cost about as much as a baller long travel. Bolt on is always nice for those that don’t have the means to weld. No doubt. But IMO the pros far outweigh the cons.

Deaver didnt want to help me much on custom springs. I dont know if its because I called them directly or what. They were just brushing me off.

Remember who you spoke with? Anytime I’ve called I talked to I believe Jeff and he’s always been super helpful. But I’d bet if Harry or Jesse called it would be no issue either. I personally know a local who had a custom pack done by them. So they do, do them.

I’d sent them a couple emails in the past and an unanswered phone call was enough to look elsewhere for business. Anecdotal evidence but I’m not alone. It’s unfortunate because I’ve heard good things about them.

They aren’t actually a huge operation. I’m pretty sure it’s just a few guys banging out springs. Yeah, they can be hard to get ahold of. But they do produce the finest leaf springs available.

That’s what I gathered after some digging. It’s surprising how many of these seemingly large companies are actually small operations.

Impressive, really. I know there’s been a few times I’ve called JD and not gotten anybody. I get it. Hell I’m living it right now doing side fab work. Sometimes I just can’t answer. Can definitely be frustrating at times, but it just means they are busy hammering out work.

I forget who it was. I have all my weights and numbers.
I'm going to try the HD70s and see how that goes. If I need a add a leaf. I hope that shouldnt be difficult to get from them hopefully.

Perhaps Deaver was not to interested in doing something custom for a SOA setup for a Tacoma because they already offer the U-402 stage 1,2 and 3. I just find it best to tell Harry what you want to do and then do what he says.

The large operations normally will only deal with their dealers, so if you actually get someone on the phone they are probably a small operation.

While SUA is the Shit! You really are limited on how much weight you can carry on this leaf pack size and still have real world performance... I have the JD HD setup along with a kitted
Alu-cab canopy, spare tire and spare parts and other crap.. Any way maybe 500lbs total at times and I run my Truck hard on 50+ miles of Fk-ed up ranch roads a day and while it runs great at this point it's on it's limit. These kit's are perfect for running fast but IF you really want to carry shit just buy a bigger truck!!!!!

Pretty sure even the SB Canopy Campers are 450+ in weight. My buddies absolute bare LB canopy camper was 580.

Jeff is super helpful. I needed an add a leaf for my giant springs. Explained what I was looking for and had a custom set of extra leaves in a week or so.

I did all of my request via email.

Just get it with the h70hds and hope that I don’t break my truck this spring so we can work on yours again.
And I forget, are your rears 12’s or 14’s?

I really have to disagree with this statement. Many many SUA trucks out there with dual spares, fuel cells etc. That’s an easy 500lbs. It all comes down to setup. All there is to it. Weight plays no variable in my opinion unless weight is constantly changing.

I called Deaver to get custom springs, in the end Jeff did help me but every time it was "who are you", "what are we doing for you".

It seems as though many of these companies are more willing to help when you know exactly what you need and don’t have a million questions they can’t answer for you. I know when I went through the whole ordeal with the HD’s being a little too much I told him exactly what was going on, my setup, what kind of weight I had etc. He was quick with a solution for me. Every time I’ve dealt with them it’s been smooth. But I typically don’t come with questions.

    Too many to remember
“Hi Deaver, can you tell me how to make my truck work like a trophy truck? Some days it weighs 10,000lbs and others it weighs 2000lbs but then I do this one trip where it weighs 200,000lbs but only for half the trip. I included a picture of the truck below… I’m really looking forward to floating over 4’ whoops while my wife is cooking breakfast and our 69 dogs are sound asleep. If you can get back to me in the next 5 seconds that will be great.”
