Backstory. I am in shelter in place and working from home. I have Internet access which includes access to Craigslist. About 3 days ago, some basically new 315/75R16 Falken Wildpeak AT3s came up for $100/ea. The guy bought them for his Chevy 3500 and they wouldn't fit without a leveling kit which he didn't want to do. I had no intention of going to 35s, but out of curiosity and for something to do, I bought the tires (using appropriate social distancing transaction of course). There is no reason to do this besides the fact it will be fun, it will probably look really cool and I can resell the tires for what I paid if I can't make it work.

Full disclosure, my truck is a RWD TRD Offroad. It has front 4" spindles with the 5100s and stock springs up one notch from bottom (.65"), so around 4.5" front. Rear has add-a-leafs for around 2.5" rear. Wheels are 16x8 -1mm and current tires are Cooper Discoverer 285/75R16 atr3 XLT. The tires can fully cycle with no rubbing anywhere. The front fenders and inner liners have already been well trimmed when I was running a wheel with a -30mm offset.

First think I thought was, damn these are big.

    IMG_20200402_125348.jpg

On paper, here are the specs between tires:

    Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT 285/75R16- 32.56" OD, 11.6" width on 8" rim
    Falken Wildpeak AT3 315/75R16- 34.6" OD, 12.3" width on 8" rim

So, the new tire's radius is +1" and the width is .7" (.35" more on each side from centerline).

I measured clearances. It looks like I will only get rubbing on the LH cab mount.

Stay tuned, this is going down next week.

On 4.5" of lift you'll rub minimally while street driving, I would assume. Are you on stock UCAs?

Stock UCAs, yes. I do want travel for light offroading though, so I will have to do some more trimming and possibly CMC. You can see that the spindles remove any UCA clearance issues.

I was thinking UCAs mostly for increased caster to get the tires off your cab mount. With 295s I'm damn close to my UCAs. Been looking for 1/4" spacers to get my tires away from my UCAs. I'm on 0 offset 8" wide wheels.

I had a shop custom make hubcentric .25" spacers for me. Here they are with entended studs.

I chopped the 35s on there. I think proportionally it will be spot on with the lift. The 33s looked a hair small with the 4.5"

Yeah the spidertrax are 1.25”, too much for my taste and -12 wheel offset.

That set up scares the hell out of me. Zero chance I would run that. You shear those long studs and you are toast. Now there is a chance you can run it with no problem, but my god you just introduced a point of failure that would be catastrophic.

I don't understand what you are talking about at all. The custom US made spacers are hub centric to the hub and wheel so the wheel is centered to the hub; that alleviates any side load to the studs. The extended studs assure sufficient threads on the lugs due to the 1/4" spacers. I don't see how this setup is any different than a bolt on spacer.

Damn that's a nice set up

Yeah I don't know what he's going on about either. It looks like a solid spacer.

As I have said in other threads to try this. Grab a 5lb bag of sugar. Hold it close to your chest and see how long you can hold it. Next extend your arm and see how long you can hold that bag of sugar. This is what you are doing when you push your wheels out further. At least with the bolt on spacer, you are getting more metal and better attachment. With your set up you are just hanging that bag of sugar further out.

The bolts aren’t taking any weight. It’s a hub centric spacer. The hub will be taking the weight.

    Mods? Yes.
Same argument can be made of wheels with more negative offset than stock.

Not saying there isn't an argument to made about the physics of the equation, but peoples wheels are going to fly off from over torqued lugs before a reasonably sized, properly designed/made/installed spacer.

Yeah what he said. If that hub wasn't extended, then I would agree to an extent, but since a new hub was machined in it's no different than any other hub centric spacer.

I was gonna say we should squash this because it's pointless to the thread, and if you don't like it, then don't run it. It's Friday though and I'm bored, so let's internet fight.

I've read where you stated that before. It's a horrible analogy. You're talking about, idk, like a 32" difference from the center of your chest compared to an extended arm. This dude is pushing his wheel out 1/4"... Come on, fella.
