Fitting a large tweet or coaxial in the dash(3rd gen) - who's done it?

I'm thinking of putting a coaxial or driver larger tweeter the dash in place of the Morel Tempo Ultra tweeters in the dash now. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on here that it's been done (and the poster made his own mounting rings? @vietjdmboi maybe?).

I'm not looking to go active, so will the coaxial work off the passive crossover with little issue?

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

Edited to add: I'm going to swap out with the Morel CCWR254 2-1/2 wide range driver

I believe a anything below 3.5 will fit with some trimming. I know the illusion audio 3 inch coaxial has been done before.

I currently have a 2 inch mid in my dash, but have plans to swap it out with a 3.5 inch mid in the near future.

Something to keep in mind though, most 3.5 inch speakers are on the lower end of the budget, so the sound is not great. there is no real mid price 3.5s, just dirt cheap crap and expensive good stuff.

As for the crossover stuff, the speaker should be fed full range, it has its own built in crossover and putting it on any other crossover will make it not sound great

I was actually looking at drivers more than coaxial units, like the Morel CCWR254 2-1/2 driver

Here are my 2 inch mids I put in, there is plenty of space on either side. You may need to trim the wave guide under the speaker grill, but thats easy.

Are you running a 3 way system, or are the 2" drivers your tweeters?

3 way full active system, two 4 channel amps running the speakers and a mono running the sub, all run through a audiocontrol 10 channel dsp. all crossover points are done in my dsp along with time alignment for each individual driver.

Its actually not terrible to do. Time alignment and crossover points was easy, just measure lengths and input values that the drivers can handle. The real pain in the ass is adjusting gain levels so the speakers play at the correct volumes.

I went out and took a look at the crossovers and moved the tweet POS connections from +2dB to -2dB to see what happens.

I wouldn't mind moving up in size on the tweeter, but I feel as though with the factory crossover point of 2800hz, I feel as though the CCWR254 wouldn't be as full as I would like on the dash

What are the dimensions hole to hole on the tweeter mounts? The CCWR254s 68.2mm for mounting in the drawing.

That's a good idea. I think I have some foam too.

After living with the Subaru/Kicker tweeters for almost a year, I decided to give the Kenwood Kfc-x2c a try.

    g113X2C-o_other0.jpg
Mainly because of the wide range advertised at 800~20kHz. The goal being, increasing separation in the front stage. I was noticing that listening without any rear fill, the fronts sounded downright monaural!

These widerange drivers accomplished that goal, but smooth sounding they are NOT! I found they do extend higher than the Kickers, but with a huge spike in output right at 3kHz, combined with a lot of combing . (Probably due to the nature of being bounced off the windshield?).

Still working at it, but here's where I'm at now with attempting to smooth it all out.

    Screenshot_20190810-193656.jpg

The Kenwoods do bolt right up, but I needed an adapter harness so I could also add a 0.8mH coil for the door speaker, crossing it over below 800Hz.

    20190810_181835.jpg

I reused the foam from the original tweeters and added it to the speaker grilles.

    20190808_180241.jpg

I'm loving the better imaging right now, but the overall response is still far from perfect. On top of that, their low sensitivity
of only 83dB, means I'm maxing out my little amplifier, adding distortion to the problem.

I was looking at the Morels, I'd like to know how those midranges work out in the dash location if anyone tries this.
