Hi everyone I drive a 2020 4cylinder sr I’m currently running 265/75/16s at stock height and I drive the truck everyday on the highway and it is slow but is still bearable. and I’m looking to lift the truck to make it sit higher and i think the truck will look silly with the tire size I am running now. Does anyone have any experience on the daily driving effect of having 285/70/17 on a 4 cylinder. Is it bearable? Are there any other tire size options that won’t affect power as much?

It will just get worse with more lift, heavier, and larger tires. You mentioned it's bearable, it sounds like it's already laboring.
While the 4 cylinder is fantastically reliable engine, it's got juuuust enough umph to push the stock later, bigger, heavier, more obtuse generations down the highway.

You should seriously consider re-gearing if you plan to *Stay* with a larger tire size. Especially with a 4cyl. This will reduce strain on your drivetrain and engine overall, and bring it back into line with how it is geared now, and your overall final drive ratio. Also, take into consideration the weight of different tire and wheel combinations when you're looking at options. Every extra lb of tire/wheel (and more generally unsprung mass) is like adding 4lbs (and there're 4 tires and wheels, so like 16lbs/lb overall) to the vehicle, and this effect is further magnified by increasing the tire diameter, which is reducing the final drive ratio as it sits now.

The more rotating mass you add, the slower it will be, period.

Skinny as hell tires would at least have the chance to decrease the footprint friction. Pump them up to max pressure to decrease rolling resistance.

You can use online calculators to see how different size tires affect both odo (not actual) mileage and aesthetics. So you can see what your tradeoffs will be.

Any idea what gears I would have to switch to, any kits online and price to do the job?

Yikes, 285s on a 4 banger? I would slap on some 255/75/17s and call it a day. By the way, you don’t need a lift to fit larger tires.

    Yeah…

I wouldn’t even run 285s with a v6. Too much strain on drivetrain and steering components.

Look for the "4.88 vs 5.29 regear" thread in this subforum. Lots to read up on.

I do. Have 265/75/16 may go to 235s depending on what camper I get. Too much to think about

I like the tires and truck drives well its the hills the really put a damper on it. I'm moving out to Utah soon so will most likely get a tune

I had a 2020 SR 2.7 but it just wasn’t cutting it for me so I took a loss and traded for a 23 Off Road. There is a 4 cylinder forum on here , might want to go check it out

Sucks on highway, i generally cruise 65 4th gear. Steep hills and on ramps i am pedal to the floor and giving it everything.Any hills kill momentum. Tolerable otherwise. I have manual tranny, stock gears, intake, exhaust, throttle controller. I am already planning out larger tires down the road after these.
