I've got a nice surprise taking off my bed rail caps. Any ideas on how to fix this before it gets worse?

I've got Ironx Carpo- but the more serious rust, I think is going to to need more attention.

Mask bed sides well to just under rail cap, sand off all rust, treat with Rust Mort or similar, prime and paint.... even with a brush and Rustoleum as long as it won't show, reinstall rail caps. Was there a cap on that truck at some time? It looks like somebody already tried to touch it up. I wouldn't wait too long, that rust is beyond the surface rust stage already. What year is the truck?

I imagine everybody that lives in the rust belt is in the same predicament and don’t know it. The salt spray gets up under those plastic parts. The plastic parts rubs off the paint and the salt goes to work.

You can also use rust encapsulating paint to stop the rust from spreading.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be on it ASAP! I was worried some parts of the rust were maybe a little too bad for a sand/wire brush repair. It’s an 06. Yeah, the second owner only did touchips where the rust was slightly visible with the caps on. He even used wrong paint color as well.

You will need to sand it all to bare metal and then prime and repaint.

When rust has started, rust has started. But good news its in a spot that doesn’t have to look pretty lol

That last pic looks pretty bad . Knock off all the rust scales and probably going to get pin holes or worse . The good thing is it will be hidden with plastic trim. Rust encapsulating paint would be best .
    Rust just sucks big time.
