Lately my backup lights don't always turn on when I put the gear shift into the Reverse position. If I wiggle the shifter somewhat, like shift into neutral and then back into reverse a couple times, then the backup lights work, so I'm thinking my backup sensor is intermittent.

I've found several different sources for that switch and several different prices that vary from $17 (various sources) to over $120 (for a Toyota part). Has anyone installed a lower cost switch and had good results with it and if so, who did they buy the switch from?

I used a Beck Arnley. 5+ years still good.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Over the years I went with NAPA I am sure the switches came from several manufactures over the years.

    That's odd.
When my original started acting up it tested good on the bench so I started thinking that there was some wear in the trans not giving the plunger a good enough "push". I stuck it back in without the crush washer. That effectively moves the switch that much further into the case and it worked a couple more years. I think it was just the worn/fouled switch needing just a bit more persuasion.

My original OEM switch lasted about 20 years, or about 130K miles. When it when out I went to Auto Zone and purchased a Dormen for less than $20. Super easy to change it out, takes maybe 5 minutes. My new switch has been good for 2 years or so.

My thanks to everyone who replied! I think I'll just get one at Autozone and save $100. Hopefully it will last a few years.

Double Check the Switch before removing it might be a connection or wiring issue.

    Good Luck!
