So this morning I was bored and went out to the garage to try and fix the rattle that comes from the airbag/upper dash area on my NEW 08. Took things apart and snooped around and did 2 things:

    1) Wedged some closed cell foam between the air duct and the fire wall...lay under the dash and look up and you will see. That helped a little.

    2) The main fix - I wedged a 6" strip of black closed cell foam (about 3/8 - 1/2" wide between the windshield and the front of the dash in line with the air bag and bingo, rattle gone. You cannot tell it's there unless you look.

I am actually disappointed ....I have not owned a Toyota in about 10 years and I have always loved them but The cheapness of some things on this drives me nuts. This was NOT a cheap truck either. I have never ridden in a ford/chevy truck with this lack of a solid feeling. I can deal with certain things cause I know these trucks are dead reliable but making sure the dash is solid and rattle free should be a priority....its 2009. :(

Anyway...if some of you try this let me know if it works.

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
Poser, I fixed mine this morning too. I think my rattle was coming from a different place though. My rattle was coming from that giant wire bundle tapping that metal pipe thing in there.

    Just enough, and never enough
I love my Tacoma but you do have a very valid point... how about how cheap the new WRX's feel on the inside.

I also have a rattle on the passenger side but I haven't had time to see what it is. Thanks for the heads up, I now have a place to start.

I have been meaning to take care of this. It seems like I am reminded everyday shortly after leaving for work. Thanks for the tips

I hate to say it but things do feel 'cheap' inside. The hard dash and cheap plastics (like the ac controls) bother me.

At the same time, I did not buy a $45K vehicle. Similar priced Ford/Chevy may have better internals but they lack in reliability. My wife's 2006 Jeep GC has a LOT of cheap feeling parts. It has also been in for repairs several times (some were serious issues). I'll take reliability over a softer dashboard.

My 2004 rattled a lot but it's a truck and I drove it like a truck. The stock ride on it was much rougher and things shook a lot more. My 2009 still feels more luxurious.

Finally, I have never owned a vehicle that had ZERO rattles.

I came from a 98 Ford Explorer...that thing had a TON of rattles...I think every interior panel rattled on the smallest bumps. Sometimes in my Tacoma I turn off the radio and just listen to how quite it is...NO rattles. I love it!

I had the rattle, fixed it with some wire ties. Every know and then I hear it a little. Not enough for me to worry about at this time.

Strange thing with mine. My rattle was BAD. Every little bump on the road it would rattle. It was pretty much constant while i was driving at any speed. I took my truck to Jiffy Lube (short on time) to get my $75.00 oil change :eek::eek: -- was going to walk out when they quoted me the price but "sorry sir, we seem to already have your oil drained" -- and when i got the truck back....no rattle. Its been a few days and the rattle is completely gone. the silence is pretty weird.

yeah i couldnt believe it either. They advertise $29.99 for standard oil change. In fine print they have "Full synthetic -- add $35.00". Pretty sneaky how they drain your oil and then quote you a price. I usually do it myself with Mobil 1 for around $30.00.

09 and I have either a high frequency rattle or a buzzing coming from the speaker. The sound is coming from the passenger side kick panel area and only occurs when accelerating, but I haven't had time to fully investigate the problem.
