Is this a brand new problem? Leaking injectors?

I would look at the battery, cables/clamps, and starter. Does it click or make any noise when you try to crank it?

I am pretty sure that this is a common problem, especially for 95-97 tacos. I know there are a lot of threads devoted to solving this issue but only a few actually found closure. There is one mega thread on this forum where the culprit ended up being leaky injectors. I know certain failing sensors have also caused this problem.

I also remember one person finding a "solution" where if they temporarily disconnected the temperature sensor on the airbox before starting, the truck would start up without a hitch. Some people found this to work so well that they actually put the sensor on a switch in the cab so they could disconnect it when starting then reconnect if after the truck started up.

many people chase their tails trying to solve this issue but its always the same answer, you have leaking injectors dripping gas so that floods the engine when you turn it off

SOM: I'll have to try the intake sensor trick. If it's leaking injectors did they wind up replacing injectors/seats etc...? If it doesn't need to be fixed I don't want to fix it if it's stable. I just wonder if it will get worse and leave me stuck somewhere.

You'll have to find post 2853 for the solution. I believe the new injectors did solve their problem. What the one dealer eventually did was stick a borescope down the spark plug hole after running the engine for a bit and then turning it off. They did this in all 4 cylinders and you could actually see the injectors leaking.

    did some experimenting:v
    1. removing he sensor at the airbox did nothing
    2. The engine is fine cold, or if I leave it for half an hour or more
    3. When warm and sitting for 5-10 minutes it does it.
    4. starts fine when hot if I re-start right away

pretty sure it's the injectors. Now I gotta find a video on how to change them, or let the truck sit for a while and figure it out myself while I ride the motorcycle as a daily driver.

There are no local mechanics I trust, so anything has to be done myself.
